Camp Humphreys Protests Falter
|Earlier this week, the leaders of the anti-US hate groups vowed to mobilize 10,000 people to attack the riot police protecting the annexed land for the Camp Humphreys expansion. However, possibly due to the negative reaction from the general Korean public against the violent anti-US demonstrators, the rioters were only able to mobilize 2,500 people this weekend and violence was limited:
An estimated 2,500 activists protesting the relocation of U.S. bases to Pyongtaek, Kyonggi Province, clashed with police on Sunday. However, it did not lead to the severe violence seen on May 4 when over 200 were injured.
About 1,500 members of “Hanchongnyon,¿¿ or the Confederation of Korean Students¿ Union, and the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions headed to Pyongtaek early on Sunday morning for the planned rally at an elementary school in Taechu-ri, inside the Pyongtaek military site. An additional 1,000 demonstrators, mainly student activists, joined the protest in the afternoon.
The police had banned protest rallies there, saying they were likely to become violent like before.
I wonder if the threat of being arrested by military authorities had anything to do with discouraging violence?:
Using leaflets dropped from helicopters, police warned that those entering the site would be penalized. The Ministry of Defense warned earlier that even civilians would be court-martialed if they trespassed the site which had been fenced with wire-entanglements.
Above you can see the ROK Army helicopter dropping the leaflets. Here is a trivia question for the military types out there; who can name what type of helicopter this is?
OhmyNews also has more coverage on the demonstrations as well. Of course they focused more on pictures of protesting grandmas, people dressed up as peasant farmers, and the big, bad policemen keeping the farmers down, but showed very few pictures of violence from people like this:
This picture below gives everyone a good idea what a mud hole the annexed land is. It is amazing to think that by 2008, Yongsan Garrison and the 2nd Infantry Division are supposed to move on to this mud hole. Also my hat is off to the Korean policemen having to deal with these idiots in this mudhole.
The lack of violence this weekend begs the question of why? I am beginning to think that the anti-US groups were putting out that they were going to fight the police this weekend with large numbers in order to get the riot police worked up for a confrontation and to get more of them at the site. I think the protesters were hoping that the policemen would over react and severely beat them in order to turn public opinion away from the police who are now being highly supported by the general Korean public. The hate groups have been comparing themselves tp the Kwangju Massacre for the past two weeks. Nothing happened this weekend that is going to give the general Korean public any hint that another Kwangju Massacre is about to happen. First of all you need guns to do that which the police and military at the site do not have. The riot police showed much restraint in dealing with these people. It helps when they are not getting attacked by sharpened bamboo poles and metal pipes for a change.
This is still far from over and these hate groups will eventually return to violence and doing whatever they can to delay the construction of the new expanded camp. If they can delay construction long enough they hope that the US might just cancel the camp consolidation plan and pull out of Korea all together. That is the ultimate goals of these anti-US hate groups. They could care less about the Daechu-ri farmers. They are just pawns for their greater goal of removing USFK from Korea.
How would you, as an American, feel if the Korean People established a permanent Military base in say, Florida. Yeah it may be crappy swampland, but
a) crappy mudholes here are rice paddies that feed the whole country, and
b) That is not the point! the point is a loss of sovereignty.
It is terrible that the US just keeps bases in all of these countries around the world, not just here in Korea. As a Canadian, if you Yanks tried to pull that crap on our soil I'd probably do everything in my power to kick you out of my country, including the use of force if necessary. This stupid Manifest Destiny bullshit is going to land the United States in a big pile of dead meat if they don't watch their steps and their tongues in the next century! This is the whole reason that terrorist activities took place in the first place. I don't condone the actions of the perpetrators of those acts, but if you blame Iraq, bear in mind that the US and Britain have been bombing that country ever since the Gulf War. I too would be pissed in their position. Why not try walking a mile in the other guys shoes before adopting that holier-than-thou self-righteous tone? It's high time that folks like you realize that this is well deserved treatment, and that people DON'T WANT YOU ON THEIR SOIL!
Robert Plant, your a moonbat. I don’t even know where to begin to shoot down your moonbat rant. First of all foreign nations already have military bases on American soil. Go to Ft. Bliss, TX where there are large Japanese and German military contingents.

Holloman AFB in New Mexico has a German air force base responsible for the tactical training of German pilots.

Luke Air Force Base in Arizona hosts a Singapore air base responsible for the fighter training of the Singapore Air Force.

I could go on and on but multiple nations keep contingents in the US for training purposes. US bases overseas are there for force projection purposes. Why do you think there hasn’t been a war in NE Asia for last 55 years? Compare the past 55 years to the 55 years prior to the US projecting force in NE Asia where the region was in constant warfare.
Let’s look at Europe, they were experts at killing themselves until the US projected force and ever since the US projected force in Europe they haven’t killed each other.
Let’s look at the Balkans, after the Berlin Wall falls constant warfare and genocide breaks out. The US projects force in the region and guess what people are now not killing each other. I can go on and on but you are a moonbat so none of this logic registers.
Then your claim that people don’t want us on their soil is even more dubious when every opinion poll in Korea has advocated keeping USFK in Korea. You have countries in Eastern Europe competing heavily for US military bases. Africa as well is competing heavily for military bases with the creation of the Africa Command. Once again I could go on and on but you are a moonbat and reason does not sink through a moonbat’s brains. All they know is they hate Bush and they hate America contrary to all evidence that says otherwise.
So do me a favor, just stay in Canada and keep smoking the dope you have obviously been smoking while Canadian soldiers more honorable then yourself continue to serve their nation and continue a long history of Canadian war time bravery in Afghanistan while you bitch and moan about crap you know absolutely nothing about.
GiKorea, liked your Commit! As I am normally a man of few words, I have a few for the moonbat who dared to use the name robert plant; If America WANTED Canada, you sound like the type that would sit in a hole like the Iraq president did and let those better than yourself do the fighting. As Canada is not of interest to most if not all Americans, I will not have the opportunity to pull you out of that hole. Sadly!
The aircraft looks like an OH-6, "littleBird". Used for observation but can be lightly armed.
Robert Plant,
Be careful. You probably don't fully grasp what America is about. For years and years, while I was in elementary, middle and high school, Canada came up in lessons over and over again.
I don't remember everything I was taught, but I remember some of it. As far as I know, this was standard federalized education in all schools in the United States of America. I'm sure many Americans here will attest to this training they received in public schools.
I can look back on it now as a form of American-style indoctrination but at the time, I took it very seriously. Probably most Americans, and those in power, still do.
1. Canada is basically a 51st state. If you go to Canada as an American, you will not fully grasp that you are in a different country. Through years of careful planning, America's influence has been so overwhelming and successful that, unlike Mexico, Canada can be assimilated rapidly without social disruption or resistance from the native population once the resources and manpower are required to insure the American standard of living, or for conquest on a global scale.
2. Over 90% of the Canadian population lives within 100 miles of the United States border. This was taught to us as proof that Canada was actually America but that the border was misplaced. With a fantastic, unguarded infrastructure (of highways and such) Canada is basically inviting and encouraging liberation by rapid "shock and awe" mechanized United States forces.
Once the border is reallocated to a more Northern and historically correct position, the minority of remaining "Canadians" will have some disadvantage in the fully democratic referendum which directs the remaining physical majority of resource-rich Canada to enthusiastically and willingly join the United States in a North American Union… well, "union" in the sense that the United States of America has expanded it's territory.
3. Unknown to average Canadians, Canada has actually been America's testing ground in a number of fields. So that valued American people didn't suffer and the national direction does not run astray, the American government tested many liberal social experiments in Canada before deciding to reject or incorporate them into the American system. Sadly, most failed and were rejected. From immigration to socialized medicine, Canada has been an embarrassment to the greatest liberal minds in the bipartisan think-tanks that co-control American policy and politics.
As an example from school lessons, I remember that, due to socialized medicine, ALL of Canada (second largest nation in the world) has fewer nuclear magnetic resonance scanners than Albuquerque, New Mexico.
4. I remember some of the planned method for unification (or absorption). While America has a high percentage of private firearms ownership, the United States government has done an excellent job of not only encouraging the Canadian government to restrict firearms but to insure the Canadian population is rabidly against them. We were taught that this was a reason we shouldn't fear a large-scale invasion of Canada. There would be little resistance from a dis-armed and docile population.
This probably doesn't sit well with many Canadians but no matter how it sat, ire and anger should not be your first emotion. Logical and reasonable thought should control your response and you should act accordingly.
J!
All the Canadian Engrish teacher needs to do is change his citizenship to Korean and vote to kick the evil yankees out. Unless of course Korea wont allow a vote on the subject. In that case the Canadian Egnrish teacher can run for office claiming that he will allow a vote to kick the evil yankees out. Oh, I forgot, that every single Korean politician promises just that when they run for office. And then they dont deliver. I guess this Canadian Engrish teacher can try it anyway. I mean after all as a Canadian Engrish teacher he now commands more respect and wealth then ever before in his life. If he pisses on your leg and tells you its raining.. well it must be raining.
The two million Korean wan he makes a month enables him to dine to his hearts delight at 7-11 and drink all the Hite or Cass he can pour down his throat (as long as he stays in the cheep bars and doesn't order food or buy other a drink). This kind of wealth, is only in the dreams of his countrymen back in his tribe in newfoundland or ottawa. (side note: did you know that ottowa is the most diverce place in the world)
As an Engrish teacher he commands the respect give to a handful of Canadian noblemen (and women) such as celieon dion and jim carry. He is on par with the true greats of his nation. It is only natural that he should decide what is good for Korea and the world.
I think after the Canadian Engrish teacher fixes Korea, he should move on to head the UN.
Not sure whose reply makes me laugh harder, crappy's or GIKorea's. Robert Plant, you really ought to study history a bit before you pop off. You'd avoid making an ass of yourself online. What does "manifest destiny" have to do with USFK bases anyway? Has anyone mentioned to you that we are REDUCING our presence in ROK? Bombing Iraq since 1990? Did you pay attention to what happened there and why? If Saddam had abided by the agreements he signed back then to save his sorry ass, there'd be no bombings and no war. Last, you should take a look at the role of Korean college students in their society. They are, and always have been, the vanguard of rabble-rousing there, they make US college kids look like lazy, stupid daydreamers (hmmm, come to think of it…) Don't mistake this for the sentiments of the general populace.
