Slicky Boy Stories: The Axels
|The Axels
In 69-70 I was assigned to 1/12th Arty. We were located at Cp
Snow in Pobwonni just south of Mickey Mouse Corner.
Once we were on maneuvers only about 30 min from base and stayed
overnight. I broke the rules and had my trucks pulled in close to each other
not more than 18 inches apart.
Other sections in the battalion did not. Consequently even though guards
were posted and roving around, some of the other sections had all the
axels removed from their trucks and had to be towed back to based by
mine and a few other trucks that escaped losing their axels.

This slicky boy story was from Korea, A Tour of Duty.
If you have your own slicky boy story to share e-mail me your story at gikoreaonline@yahoo.com and I will be happy to post it.
I arrived in HHC 15th Medical Bn in December of 1959.
By April of 60 I was the Bn Supply Sgt after a SFC and a SSG had both rotated.
WE had been stuck in Camp for a couple of months because of bad road conditions and had a lot of Clothing to pict up at the 15th QM site in Munsan.
Normally I would have been the guard in the back of the truck to swing my baseball bat at the head of the Slickey Boys.
Since this was first outing since being in charge of the Supply room, it was just me and the driver in a duce and half.
WE put all the boots and clothing in mattress covers and strapped them to the troop seats of the truck WE went to extra afforts to tie down the rear canvas so no one could get inside the bed of the truck
Away we go and never did we get under I would say 15 MPH until we got back to 15th Med Supply and backed up to the supply room door.
When we untied the rear cancas curtain, all we saw was dust.
The slickey boys had raided our truck and stolen everything. I had to report to our S-4 and get my asss chewed, because I didn't take along an extra guard.
Never did that happen again.
