Canadian Parliament Joins Comfort Women Dispute

From the Chosun:

The Canadian Parliament is pushing for the passage of a resolution calling for Japan to apologize for its "comfort women" atrocities and compensate the victims. The bill was submitted by New Democratic Party Rep. Wayne Marston. A motion passed Tuesday in a vote of four to three by the Subcommittee on International Human Rights under the Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development of the Canadian House of Commons. Marston said, "Prime Minister Abe must be pressured to formally apologize and to institute a program to compensate the 50,000 to 200,000 women who were forced to serve in military brothels during World War II."

Does anyone from Canada know if Wayne Marston is just a Canadian version of Michael Honda?

Like I have maintained, I will start caring about what these politicians say on the sex slave issue the day they start demanding China do something about the modern day sexual slavery going on in China right now.  Condemning Japan is an easy target to display ones own "righteous outrage" compared to China where it would take real political courage to condemn the abhorrent human rights conditions for North Korean refugees there now.  I’m sure 60 years from now someone in both the Canadian Parliament and the US Congress will each submit their own bill condemning China for their human rights record now, while the politicians today do nothing.

GI Korea

Thank you very much for your very nice article.

The real victors of WW2, like US, Britain, Canada, and Australia, punished the war crimes of losers only, not the crimes of Victors after the war. It was unfair. But it was a reality of victors and losers in those days. But Chinese and Korean who were not real victors of WW2 are trying to exploit the authority of victors to revenge Japan even now. Why? Because they know Japanese could not fight back against the Victors’ justice.

In short, it is for revenge, not for justice. They never have an idea to apologize for their own crimes in the past.

Unfortunately, some people of Victors’ countries are cheering for them intentionally or unintentionally.

The case of Korean is quite unique. Korean didn’t even fight against Japanese. They fought as Japanese during the war against victors. That is the main reason why they have made a desperate effort to distort history and pretend to be a victim of Japanese Empire.

Hence Korean criticizes Japanese with the loudest voice, louder than any other victors of WW2.

Here it is as I wrote it yesterday. There is not actually a lot of information about this guy personally – could be do to the fact that he is in the 'fringe' party of the main three national parties.

I do not know much about the guy personally, but I am familiar with the party he is with.

The NDP can pretty much be described as lefties – I will hesitate from adding 'wingnuts' for the present time. They come out with all sorts of Utopian style policies and criticize as there is pretty much no hope in hell that they will ever see a majority government.

Their top issues from http://www.ndp.ca/workingfamiliesfirst are

1. Better public health care
2. Clean, air, land, and water
3. Economic security for working families
4. Accessible education and training
5. Towards equality for women
6. Dignity and security for seniors
7. Justice for aboriginal Canadians
8. Confronting poverty in Canada
9. Electoral reform: make every vote count

Pretty standard list as far as government goes, but like most lefties, their lexis is full of woulds and shoulds while using 'appeal to emotion' type arguments.

Without going too much further, the NDP pretty much ignores reality for pie in the sky idealism.

With that said, I don't find it unusual at all for this to come from one of the NDP. It is just simple pandering to the supposedly 'social conscious' left in Canada.

What I would like to add is that I think it is purely a political maneuver. Being watered down socialists, they like to bring up the 'evils' of the large parties. If the government shot this down, it would just be more ammo and another way to exemplify the government as uncaring bastards.

This time round (2006) was their most successful bid ever (iirc) with 29 of 314 seats. More than 2/3rds of those came from BC (10) and Ontario (12). BC has always been a little left of center and Ontario , while fed up with the liberals, really did not want to vote for the Tories since the possibility existed for *gasp* western representation (the leader is from the west).

So once again, it is not surprising that there is not a lot of information on this guy due to the company he keeps. My summary, political ploy in hopes that the government actually rejects it in order to feed the (f)ire of the 'socially conscious'.

But that is just my opinion and what do I know…I am a Western Separatist.
