Air Force Pay Could Be Cut
|The Osan bar owners are going really hate this if it happens:
The Air Force said Wednesday that it might not be able to pay its airmen in the coming months if the Pentagon is forced to shift some $800 million to the Army to fund the war in Iraq.
The Army announced this week that it will slow spending and prioritize repairs to equipment as it waits for Congress to review emergency funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition, the Pentagon has asked Congress for the OK to shift $1.6 billion in funds meant for the Navy and Air Force to pay the Army’s operating expenses, according to an Army news release.
That shift of funds could affect the Air Force in several ways, according to Maj. Morshe Araujo, an Air Force spokeswoman.
Hopefully our poor excuse for a Congress gets their act together and funds our military. I have maintained that if the Congress wants to end the war than simply hold a vote to cut funding for the war and withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan. When a regional war breaks out, oil sky rockets, and the US economy goes to crap don’t blame the military. If Congress is not willing to do this than they need to shut up, quit giving hope to the terrorists, and fund our military. These political games that are directly effecting our military is an absolute disgrace.

Maybe if the AF cuts back on the 37 different types of hats all worn at the same time by the same unit of people, they could pay the Air People and they would actually look uniformed
If the Air Force cuts the pay role the Pay Day Loan people are going to have a field day.
Ha!
…and a great marketing slogan for the Air Force would be to change, "More With Less" to "More FOR Less". I bet a pay cut would be the last straw for the dismal lack of morale at Osan right now… might even lead to open mutiny… or, at the least, "Less For Less".
…but, I call their bluff.
Since many (most?) low-ranking AF guys and gals are in debt to the limit of their income, a pay cut or delay would cause a terrible chain reaction of missed car payments, bounced Star Card checks, etc…
Management would be so busy giving Article 15s they wouldn't get any Air Force stuff done.
No. It sounds like a good threat… but they can't be that stupid, can they? Or, can they?
J!
J!
If anything gets cut, it will probably be new projects, parts, office supplies, new equipment, things of that nature. I cannot see our government not being able to pay our military people. When that happens, you may as well leave the country, it's all downhill from there.
I would be amazed as well if the Democrats let this drag out long enough to where Air Force personnel don't get paid. However, just the fact the Pentagon is considering it is incredible to me. I can't ever remember a budget crisis quite like this.
Scare tactics. Political fear mongering…
It's too bad I have to say it, but the camel's back just broke. As soon as I'm given the oppurtunity I'm seperating. The Pentagon's proposal only increases my distrust of our senior leadership at this time. Someone needs to reign in the executive branch, and I'm guessing you know who should do it.
The Pentagon needs to shift the Air Force payroll money to fund operations in Iraq if they don't get funded. The Pentagon would rather the Air Force not get payed than have soldiers and Marines with no beans and bullets in Iraq. The Pentagon is not the one to blame for this. The blame is squarely in the US capitol where playing political games and ensuring the war goes as bad as possible to increase their own political power is more important than airmen getting paid or the lives of our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
I encourage you to read my asshat of the year post.
