Footage of Australian Soldiers in Action in Afghanistan
|Via Fortress Australia, comes some great footage of the Australian Army in action in Afghanistan:
The Australian Defence Force may have a very limited role in Iraq due to the political consequences of casualties there because of the unpopularity of the war, but in Afghanistan as this video shows the Aussie "diggers" are definitely in the fight there. The relevant military contribution from such a small nation as Australia is putting many of our so called NATO allies to shame in Afghanistan.
I read in a military magazine that Australian military has over 60% of their forces deployed outside of the Continent at the same time. Imagine if US has 60% of our forces deployed outside of CONUS. Talk about the committment that Aussies make.
Excellent video. On a light-hearted note, calling Australia a "small nation" would be equivalent to challenging an Aussie to a game of rugby on broken glass. Australia is HUGE and almost the size of the US. Of course, everyone lives on the coast over here and the outback is pretty much no-mans land.
Australia is huge land wise but it is small population wise. Australia has a population of 20 million and yet with such a small population Australia politically, economically, and militarily is far more relevant in the world than nations with much larger populations.
Australia is truly an exceptional country and great US ally.
