Hanchongryun Protest Falters at Camp Casey
|The useful idiots this weekend sure didn’t have much of a turn out for their anti-US protest:
An unexpectedly small anti-U.S. military protest turned into a large shoving match Saturday afternoon but ended without serious injuries.
At least one anti-U.S. military protester briefly attacked U.S. soldiers entering Camp Casey’s main gate; however, the attackers were subdued and the soldiers were not injured, base security officials said.
Between 75 and 150 protesters attended at various times from 4 p.m. to 6:40 p.m., far below the 1,000 that had been expected last week. [Erik Slavin, Stars & Stripes]
So does anyone think that these protesters who attacked the soldiers walking into the gate will be charged with any crimes? Now just imagine if a group of soldiers went and attacked some Koreans walking into building somewhere, what do you think would happen to them?
It is also important to remember that these protesters are from the North Korean fifth column Hanchongryun, who are protesting over the Beauty Shop Bandit case. They are pissed because the local police will not file arson charges against a suspected GI because there is not enough evidence. If they are so pissed off about not having arson charges brought forth than why aren’t they protesting in front of the Dongducheon city hall than? Plus Hanchongryun is demanding a change in the Status of Forces Agreement. What change they want they never specify but I can assume they want a change where GIs go to prison whether they have a fair trial or not. They could cares less about the findings of the local authorities, they just want mob justice against the bastard GIs.
Anyway their protest was so small the local Korean merchants didn’t even bother having their own counter-protest:
Members of the pro-U.S. military Dongducheon Merchant Association observed the protesters but did not organize a formal counter protest.
It is good to see that the idiots at Hanchongryun are going out of style. Why can’t Roh Moo-hyun takes these clowns with him to Pyongyang this week and leave them there?
A fair percentage of them (the leadership) will be attending graduate school in the US soon enough….
Sad but true. They are probably standing in the line in front of the US Embassy right now.
They may hate Americans, but they hate the rain more. 😉 LOL
Actually, the current SOFA already sends soldiers to jail whether they have a fair trial or not. Just not as many as the Hanchongryun goons want.
Is there any Black list that US Consulate keeps tab on these Hanchongryun Goons? Anyone who participated in anti-US activities should not allowed to have visa to US.
Actually you are right Brendon, some of the results from GI trials that I have posted on here before have been quite dubious and Korean judges have even admitted to this fact.
CPT Kim I will have to assume that as long as Hanchongryun member has no criminal record they will probably be good to go to get a visa. That is one of the reasons I wish the Korean authorities would arrest and convict these goons when they commit crimes so there is a written record of it that will impact their ability to get a US Visa.
As it stands now rarely do these people get arrested for commiting crimes that range from assaults to even kidnapping of GIs.
Back in 2002, when a large group of them, along with one or two elder leaders, stormed the US Chamber of Commerce in Seoul, knocked out a window high up in the skyscraper to hang a banner, and laid siege to the place forcing the police to retake it, doing thousands of dollars in damage, there was an outcry in the press and from the Kim Dae Jung government — about the US Embassy request to get personal information on the students detained….
This has occurred more than once when an event has taken place and the US has asked for records. The Korean press and government voices concern over visa issues.
Most Korean adults today are connected in some way to the democratic movement in the 1970s and 80s. The memories are fresh, and they have a natural tendency to favor even misguided youth…
Have anybody noticed that after the GI kidnapping incident and 2nd Bde has left the protesting has went down.
I think the protesting has gone down because 2002 is now a long time ago. The whole Kim Jong-il is our misunderstood brother and the euphoria of the World Cup is gone. Now the vast majority of Koreans know Kim Jong-il is not misunderstood and just playing them for every cent of South Korean tax payer money he can get and that the possibility of USFK pulling out is very real with the removal of 2BCT. There has been a variety of cultural shocks in South Korea that has effected the conventional wisdom of 2002 and is leaving Hanchongryun looking more and more irrelevant.
The taking of the GI in 2002 isn't connected to the current trend we've seen the last few years…..
It did put an end to the first peak of the tank accident fury, but when there was (seemingly) no follow up to the USFK outrage, and no further US media attention beyond 2 articles, the Korean picked it back up a few weeks later — and that lasted until early 2003 when the US media began running almost daily coverage of the protests and outfits like 60 Minutes started doing specials…
What has kept things down was definately the draw down in troops….
Now that Rumsfeld is gone, let's see what happens….
[…] would love to see the Hanchongryun fifth column mess with these […]
Yes, it's election time in Korea once again….
My apologies for not responding GI also I think the people are getting tired of the crap. Traffic jams, violence, disruption of their everyday routine just so some anti guru can get paid. Most of this stuff happens in Seoul it's not nationwide. My experience has been that the people just want put in a days work go home drink a beer or two and call it day. They are more worried about paying bills than the USFK.
just kinda stumbled to this page after about 4 days in country… all i can say is if they want violence and disruption that bad we should just allow them to enter our installations with all that BS and i garantee they will get their fill
You as innaprpriate as it is to say something like that i just don't understand why they hate us like this you know… after all the in breifings we recive about courtesy's and such, along with the two hour class on all the messed up things our military has done in this country( few and far between ) it just seems to me that the majority of college students and other radicals don't want us here.. so soon are humans to forget the very people who helped to get them where they are today… i can honestly say that if it weren't for my friends the katusa's i would have some pretty foul outlooks on this place… we welcome anyone to our country with open arms. they seems to welcome us with a closed fist!
Just put things in perspective I have seen far worse things from the radical leftists in America. I was at Ft. Benning when 6,000 crazy leftists attacked the front gate, knocked down some the MPs, and poured red paint them and then dumped coffins around the gate. The rest that got through the gate were running around post planting flowers that were supposed to represent all the people we kill. Pretty vile stuff and that is just one incident that comes to mind I have seen plenty of others as well.
Korea has their crazy leftists too but it is almost always the usual suspects and in much smaller scale. It is also important to remember many of these anti-US groups in Korea are backed by North Korean spies. You might want to read a posting I did on this before:

If you make friends with the KATUSAs and don't hang out to much in the ville you will have much more positive experience in Korea.
