There are probably official duty military job positions tasked with keeping tabs on what is written on military related blogs. If routine connections are restricted, then some things can be inferred about the select few connections coming from inside the wire, so to speak. 😉

You guys give them too much credit. It’s hit or miss with no systematic plan. They can also paint with a broad brush rather than targeting actual “bad” sites. Laziness and ineptitude are the rule of the day. Cheers!

Smokes

Leon’s right. The ACL’s controlled down at the 6th RCC and if you were to ask why any specific site is blocked you’d either get a vague IA-based answer or a flat-out “I dunno.” There really isn’t any consistency, a porn site might be blocked while a tentacle porn one isn’t. Todd’s also right about it being an uphill battle due to the “work related issue” but at the same time the NFL site isn’t and probably never will be blocked and that sure isn’t work related. Gotta wait it out until GI get’s the DNS issue sorted out and the new site is accessible via the old .com address.

A Navy SEAL Surfaces as Transgender

http://www.cnn.com/2014/09/03/us/lady-valor-kristin-beck-transgender-navy-seal-interview/

After years spent fighting in some of the world’s worst wars, former U.S. Navy SEAL Kristin Beck says she knows what she wants.

“I want to have my life,” she told CNN’s “AC360.”

“I fought for 20 years for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I want some happiness.”

Beck recently came out as transgender.

She wrote about the experience in a book, “Warrior Princess: A U.S. Navy SEAL’s Journey to Coming out Transgender.”

When trying to leave a comment, sometimes I get:

1) “You are not authorized to see this part
Please, insert a valid App IDotherwise your plugin won’t work.”

…especially with my Android phone.

2) There is some sort of hijack going on… as clicking the comment box gives a warning that there is a hidden element. This seems benign… but it is not correct. I haven’t had time to investigate exactly what it is up to or why it would need to go about entering text in a shady way.

3) Sometime, even after filling in a comment, there is no popup for name/email and no “post comment” button.

In reality, this could all be very simple… but I understand the trend of monetizing everything… and, to do that, needing control over everything… so everything wants to be a script rather than simple text and HTML like the Good Old Days. This would be fine if the companies doing it weren’t so intrusive… and even abusive about it.

And, of course, when there is dishonesty (hijacks) it starts looking like there must be something that SHOULD be avoided.

4) It does not save my name and email address for some reason. Instead, there is a placeholder name and address I used testing some other website. (foo@foo.com)

I imagine it takes time to get things worked out.

During this process, my quick recommendations off the top of my head are:

1) Keep it simple. A clean and simple interface with fast load times and no reliance on scripting, hijacks, redirects, etc., that keeps the focus on thoughtful conversation is better than unnecessary interface bells and whistles that add nothing to the information being presented. A site that relied only on HTML would be a work of art. Layers and layers of 3rd party injections slow things down and increase bandwidth… especially on mobile with bandwidth limits or when there is low wifi signal.

2) Keep focused. Throw away forums, social media, and other distractions which dilute the focus or sidetrack the conversation from the orderly, linear, and centralized topic/comments. Regular open threads are perfect to collect a week of arguments, random thoughts, and non-Korea conversation. Again, everyone should come here for the content of the comments presented in a clear way and not cluttered with too many icons, sidebars, tabs, etc… though an expanded “recent comments” section would be good to make sure attention doesn’t vanish from debates when someone doesn’t check for a reply within a day.

3) Consider more advanced search options. Searching which found everything GI Korea has written (as it is now) but had another search bar for user writing would be nice to bring up conclusions from previous arguments on the same topic… though it is currently possible through Google… as long as the comment format is not changed to something third-party or script-based that Google search cannot access (lookin’ at you Disqust… Disqus… whatever)… and as long as Google keeps the page for more than a few years.

4) Keep it obviously anonymous. Lose all the Twitter/Facebook/Google+/etc crap. This is intrusive. Even through its presence (cookies/web bugs/beacon/etc) it spies on people with identifiable information who do not even use the service. This discourages honest conversation from the smartest people who are most likely to have the most interesting things to say. At the very least, don’t encourage the corporate stalkers that make billions by gossiping about you to corporate perverts and busybody government.

(Side note: If I was in charge of a Chinese spy agency or a Russian hacker group, I’d start an innocent company to buy “marketing info” from Facebook/et.al. that included American military/contractors/etc. I would then know their tastes in everything from politics to sexuality… and the ones who covertly frequent the Whitebreat Soldier Sux Big African Cack type of websites would be owned. Everybody should consider the ease of this if they go to sites their employers or families would not exactly be understanding of. It isn’t just ROK Drop… the internet is FULL of obvious military people demonstrating (or bragging) of their knowledge and position… and they are all identifiable… and their habits and desires are determinable… and much of it is because of the inclusion of social media icons that follow you wherever you go (even if you are not a user).)

5) Change the comment time to Korea time.

6) The new photo at the top, in desaturated low-gamma earth tones and grandma’s old-timey sephia, is a bit of a graphic arts downer. The only thing that could make it less attractive is changing the font to Comic Sans or Avatar Papyrus. Besides the vanity project of the modern version of that photo just means some poor GI was told there was no budget for something that he really could have used… kind of a bad feeling rather than good about the whole image.

Sooo… that is some quick thoughts on the subject.

Spam Trap? Test.

MTB Rider

It’s hard to figure out what words might trip the Spam Trap. My last post was moderated I believe for the word “nekid” although I used the non-redneck version. Pron, nekid, peeniis, the f-bomb, back door and possibly the term for an Army E4 will trip the trap.

So saying some full bird Colonel is back-door retentive may trip the system, but other words may slip in as easly as a tranny’s cvck into someone here who is really into tranny’s. 😉

Ebola, Too: Infected Boogaloo

Time for a quick update… if anybody cares… and everybody SHOULD care.

Ebola is doing pretty much exactly what is expected of it… a straight line on a log scale indicates exactly the type of exponential growth an uncontained disease should display.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Evolution_of_the_2014_Ebola_outbreak_in_semiLog_plot..png

An interesting point is how many organizations involved keep saying that nobody should be afraid because there is so little danger of contracting it through casual contact (despite cases to the contrary) and how controls on population movement are counter-productive (on the thinnest of excuses)…

…yet its multi-national spread from infected nations has been due to easy movement of infected people…

…and these concerned-with-Ebola organizations are basing their actual actions on the possibility (probability? fact?) that it spreads much more easily than they admit…

…but, then, it is now expected that most organizations lie about everything if there is some small short-term gain regardless of long-term outcomes.

If “terrorists” ever want to cause real terror, they simply need to collect infected body fluids (or farm it) and walk around contaminating surface areas in the public side of major European airports. Over the next few weeks, as people all over the world started showing symptoms, the real terror will begin… and worries of caliphate creation, al-Qaeda resurgence, and Iranian nuclear aspirations will slip to the back pages.

This is so easy technically, logistically, and financially that, if it isn’t done, it says something noteworthy about the way the world actually works.

As a global pandemic of some sort is a probability (inevitability?) with today’s population, populations density, global movement, etc., it is hopeful a dense country like Korea that has many habits of close physical contact, such as sharing food, has a plan for this.

It is probably good to have a personal plan as well.

Reading the history of the 1918 flu pandemic, and more importantly, reading personalized accounts of how people in urban areas dealt with it, is informative. It is also interesting that quarantines were effective on a national/regional level.

Where is Kushibo when you need him?

Thought this was funny but its true…

A Korean friend told me that its easy to tell which apartments Americans live in. So I said sure, by pulling surveillance and watching who enters and leaves the apartment? He says no, just by looking at the color of the trash bags. Americans are the only ones that use black trash bags, lol.

DRAT, TBONE FOUND US and FORMAT CHANGES

Maybe rokdrop.gov will keep the riffraff out for another week?

Anyway…

A couple more format suggestion:

1) Remove the “says”. The name alone is better. The font with real lower case is an improvement, by the way.

2) The first line of text appears directly under the name and next to the Gravitar. This may not be a bad thing if it is used for a comment headline… but it is distracting and unbalanced if everyone just types as usual.

3) It might add more balance to have a black line, Gravitar/name/date, a light gray line, comment.

4) Comments have no numbers. While referring to comment numbers is poor practice due to deletions or released spamtrap comments reordering things, it is nice to be able to see about where you are on the comment chain… especially in those heated conversations that lead to a hundred comments.

5) “Number of views” is a good thing… as it allows one to know how much interest there has been… and how many people have viewed a recent comment… giving a good indication of when a followup is necessary. Some arguments have many people viewing even if they don’t comment… while other ones get no audience.

6) Funny… “Subscribe to the ROK Drop Newsletter”… there is one possibility: submit email address… with a little star… leading to “Required Field”. Its requirement seems clear… unless GI Korea has taken over Lieutenant Colonel Jim Channon’s leadership of the First Earth Battalion.

The NFL said Wednesday night that former FBI director Robert S. Mueller III will be conducting an independent investigation into the matter.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11504842/roger-goodell-nfl-taken-task-players-react?src=mobile
“The Associated Press also reported it had been played a 12-second voicemail from an NFL office number on April 9 confirming the video arrived. A female voice expresses thanks and says: “You’re right. It’s terrible.”

The law enforcement official, who the AP reported had spoken on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, said he had no further communication with any NFL employee and can’t confirm anyone watched the video. He said he was unauthorized to release the video but shared it unsolicited because he wanted the NFL to have it before deciding on Rice’s punishment.

“As Roger Goodell himself said several years ago when allegations arose that the New Orleans Saints offered bounties for injuring opponents, ‘ignorance is not an excuse.’ The NFL has an obligation to do better, and a position of public trust — benefiting from broad anti-trust exemptions granted by Congress, and hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer benefits. If these allegations are true, Roger Goodell is part of the problem, and he is incapable of achieving a real solution.”

Wednesday’s developments followed news earlier in the day that Congress had begun shining a light on the NFL’s handling of the situation, with 12 Democrats from the House Judiciary Committee, which oversees anti-trust legislation such as the 53-year-old broadcasting exemption granted to the NFL, having sent a letter to Goodell calling for greater transparency.

The letter also postulated that the NFL’s prominence gives the league a special obligation to forcefully address issues of domestic violence.

U.S. senators from both parties echoed the committee’s points.

“I fear the failure of the NFL to understand the scope and severity of this act of domestic violence has already led to significant damage for vulnerable members of society,” Republican Sen. Dean Heller of Nevada said, adding that he was “highly disappointed” that Goodell and the NFL did not take severe action against Rice until after the security video was made public.

“By waiting to act until it was made public you effectively condoned the action of the perpetrator himself,” Heller wrote in his letter to Goodell. “I cannot and will not tolerate that position by anybody, let alone the National Football League.”

Sen. Richard Blumenthal released a statement after Wednesday’s news broke.

“Recent reports that the NFL had the Ray Rice battering video point to Roger Goodell’s burgeoning, insurmountable credibility gap,” Blumenthal, D-Conn., said in the news release. “If these reports are true, Commissioner Goodell must go, for the good of the NFL and its fans. The current leadership of the NFL cannot be trusted to fairly, genuinely implement policies that address domestic violence.

League partner and hotel chain Marriott said it was “closely following the situation.”

“We trust that the NFL will address the matter appropriately,” a statement on Marriott’s Twitter account said.

Some USFK land poorly managed: data
http://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20140910000238

While this may be a fair criticism of government management I have to wonder why this report was limited only to the land [set aside for/being used by] USFK and not all the military bases in Korea. Or why I see statements like this which can only be meant to enflame:
“The entire plot is about 34 times larger than Yeouido Island in Seoul.”

So while I love a good peek in the closet to keep the government legit, I say a hearty f___ y__ to the Korea Herald for portraying this in a way turn to form of sensationalistic Korean media.

Hines Ward says what really shocks him about Roger Goodell(see video)…
http://www.tmz.com/2014/09/11/hines-ward-roger-goodell-nfl-ray-rice/
“Hines Ward says he’s blown away by Roger Goodell — telling TMZ Sports he SHOCKED that with all of the NFL’s resources, the Commish says he couldn’t get his hands on the elevator tape.

“When you’re the NFL and you’ve got a bunch of FBI [agents], I’m pretty sure they could have got their hands on that tape before they made a ruling.”

The former Pittsburgh Steelers superstar — who’s now an NFL commentator on NBC — says Goodell MUST be held responsible for embarrassing the league … noting, “He dropped the ball on this one.”

As for the Ravens, Ward says the team could be in even more trouble on the field when they face his old team tonight … check out the clip.”

Also reported is what another former Pittsburgh Steelers player James Harrison said. Harrison was fined countless times by Roger Goodell for playing to rough or being the dirtiest player…”@nflcommish ain’t no fun when the rabbit got the gun huh? — James Harrison (@jharrison9292) September 10, 2014

http://thebiglead.com/2014/09/10/james-harrison-seems-happy-roger-goodell-is-under-fire/
“Goodell had fined Harrison upwards of $100,000 in 2010. It should be noted that in 2008, Goodell did not take action against Harrison following a domestic altercation where he told police he broke through a door and slapped his girlfriend. That is the un-videotaped past though.

Now the NFL Commissioner on the hot seat because of the Ray Rice scandal/incident/security videogate, the former Pittsburgh Steeler took the opportunity to compare Goodell to a hunter who had lost his gun to a rabbit. The rabbit is… the players? The media? I’m not sure who is the rabbit in this scenario, but the rabbit is going to get revenge on Roger Goodell.”

Robert Mueller III is not to be trusted for two reasons. 1) He’s an ex-marine 2) The law firm he works for (WilmerHale based in Washington, D.C.) has been in the past, still is, and will continue to be paid by the NFL.

On the ebola scenario, my son has a game on his iPhone called Plague. The object is to create a virus, then spread it to kill everyone in the world. According to him, to kill everyone in the world you have to start in Greenland because if you don’t, quarantine will block out Greenland and you can’t get the last 5000 or so.
Hmm… If terrorists do this, will the game designer be blamed? Afterall, the game studio has money, and terrorists are usually broke or don’t have tracable assets. And getting the money is the single most important thing there is… Lives? Nah, plenty more where those came from.

REPLY TO SMOKES

“The scenario you envision would have made an excellent Tom Clancy book………”

I agree that my mind sometimes strays to the paranoid end of the scale… but let’s think this out.

Kindly tell me any flaw in this chain of reasoning.

– Islamic terrorists wish to cause harm to Europe and America… and, perhaps, to all non-Muslims.
– Islamic terrorists have, or can acquire, resources and education.
– Islamic terrorists are willing to die… or groom certain Muslims who are willing to die.
– Ebola virus can be collected easily… with simple logistics and a minimum of financial investment.
– Ebola virus can live outside the body long enough to transport to another country or location.
– Ebola virus can easily be transported by martyrs inside their bodies… especially with the knowledge that,if they survive, they will be “living” martyrs.
– Ebola virus can be easily harvested from bodily fluids… going through a couple martyrs a month in a “sustainable” terror operation.
– Ebola virus has been transmitted to healthcare workers even with incredible precautions… and several cases through unintentional casual contact.
– Ebola virus-infected body fluids can be liquified or aerosolized with common sense rather than advanced science.
– Ebola virus-infected body fluids can be discretely distributed in public places… from salad bars to wet water faucet handles in public restrooms. (fantastically clever and discrete methods available upon request)

– Islamic terrorists have the MEANS… martyrs that will happily become infected instead of just blowing themselves up… funded by a few tens of thousands of dollars in airline tickets to travel to an infected region and minimal medical equipment to keep them alive in a room somewhere long enough to infect the next martyr.
– Islamic terrorists have the MOTIVE… hatred for “the west”, “infidels”, and what-not. There is an established record of Islamic terrorists killing non-Muslims… and even other Muslims.
– Islamic terrorists have the OPPORTUNITY… areas with Ebola are not quarantined… some of these areas contain fellow Muslims; some of which are fellow terrorists… Islamic terrorists can pass themselves off as aid workers assisting fellow Muslims… it is easier to get infected than not get infected.

– Even a small international Ebola outbreak that seemed to be tied to a calculated act of terrorism would cause major social, economic, travel, trade, etc. upheaval.
– Terror return on financial investment, international reach, requirement of skills, ability to compartmentalize, chance of getting caught, etc., are ALL in the terrorists favor… especially when compared to something like 9/11.

So… at one end, I see a known desire… and at the other, an achievable result… and everything in the middle is something truly less complicated and expensive than opening a 7-11 or getting a medallion taxicab license.

Even without grooming martyrs, pretty much everybody reading this has enough knowledge and cash to figure out how to get to an Ebola-infected region, make contact with people/places with Ebola, collect the virus directly or indirectly, and spread it to enough people in an international setting that it would get global attention… in fact, some of the people reading this, with no real ideology, have spent tens of thousands of dollars, traveled to distant lands, and ruined their lives trying to “build a relationship” with SE Asian whores they met on the internet… even with everyone around them trying to discourage them.

Soooo… this Ebola operation is so incredibly cheap, easy, and productive, that if it is not done, it reveals something fundamental about the reality in which we live… which is worth taking note of.

Maybe the Three Letter Agencies see all and know all, airport security is amazingly clever behind the facade of incompetence, the terrorist threat is not exactly as threatening as we have been lead to believe, Muslim terrorists are too stupid to catch a disease others can’t seem to avoid, Ebola is mostly a myth caused by whitey to scare black people from getting a job… etc.

Who can do more than guess at the answer?

Oddly, it is so easy and fitting with the desires of others… but it is not happening (yet?). In every other aspect of life, from the bar stool to the boardroom, where there is means, motive, and opportunity, there are people (with various levels of sense) rushing in to take advantage of the situation and accomplish their goals.

…but I might be paranoid… worried about impossible events pulled off by mythical people for nonexistent reasons.

And, if that is so, please put my mind to rest by crushing any point I made or breaking any link in my chain of reasoning. If you cannot do that, kindly explain why you think this event will not happen.

I await your (and anybody’s) thoughtful response.

TODAY’S EBOLA TIDBIT

“Media sources report that fake death certificates mentioning non-Ebola causes of death in Ebola victims are being issued in Liberia. Such certificates allow family members to carry out traditional burials of the dead bodies. Health authorities have started inspecting medical facilities to investigate this as traditional burial practices will further spread the disease.”

…so somebody dies of Ebola, the family gets a fake death certificate saying it was not Ebola so they can hold a traditional funeral where they get touchy-feely with a leaky Ebola-infected corpse they KNOW died of Ebola, they get (un)surprisingly infected with Ebola…

…then many somebodies die of Ebola, the families get fake death certificates… blah blah blah.

…which makes a nice straight line on a log-based graph where the X axis is “Time” and the Y axis “Dumbshyts”.

I’m not saying Africans have the monopoly on stupid… but, hey… this is screwball thinking.

This is social Darwinism in action… and it should be in every textbook as an example.

Anyway, I wish there was a dedicated place to put these updates.

It really is an inevitability that Ebola is going to make its way out of Africa… and there may not be the infrastructure, the funds, the desire, the trained personnel, or the political will to address it correctly until it is too late.

This means personal responsibility is your best defense… understanding and preparedness.

But there is an awful lot going on in some of those new reality shows… and I understand there is only a limited amount of attention that can be devoted to any one issue.

So…

That’s the second time I did that… and I have no excuse.

I read through the comments, made a mental note of what to reply to… and somehow got the names mixed up.

I don’t get it either.

No alcohol, no real distraction at the time, no ambiguity on who wrote the comment I was responding to… I… I… I don’t know.

All I can say is that I am very busy right now… so maybe I was not paying attention. I have three paying projects which require mechanical hardware design, custom electronics, microcontroller software, and a Windows interface program…

…and I am opening a new business in a month or so… a coffee shop rather than a bar… which has required an AMAZING amount of study because I knew nothing about the specifics of coffee shops… what diameter of table is best (I have chosen 50-60cm, glass top), what coffee machine is best (I chose a Nuova Simonelli Appia automatic 2 group), what color theme (concrete grey/black steel/clear glass/dark wood/LED lighting), what name, what sign, etc., etc., etc… and, while I LOVE to design and build bars, coffee shops are for girls… and the whole thing is about as interesting as what bags are in fashion this season.

On the other hand, I have some strong ideas about how to make it stand out from other coffee shops in the area… so it might do OK. Plus I have a place to hang out with cronies and be taken care of in the daytime and my wife has a place to socialize with her circle of gossips and work on whatever plotting she is up to.

…so, my mind is not fully on ROK Drop. I just take a break every little bit when I get tired of thinking of other things as I sit in front of the computer on and off for 16 hours/day.

CH,

I’m not saying you wasted your breath, because you raise some very real concerns that no one seems to be talking about at any level of leadership.

I will say that you are preaching to the choir.

I was only half joking about the Clancy novel.

As soon as I heard about Ebola spreading in Africa, I immediately thought of that book. Clancy had a pretty good knack for imagining legitimate nightmare hypothetical situations and the ways in which they might be brought about.

In his version, the Iranians smuggle the virus into the country in fake shaving cream cans that spray an aerosol mist of the Ebola virus. The agents drop them in convention centers hosting events across the country.

I could see it happening. I wonder if the CDC or Homeland Security have put 2 and 2 together yet?

I always hear that the government agencies have an answer for every scenario and that every possibility is predicted beforehand.

I wonder then why the rise of ISIS seems to be such a surprise.

I certainly hope someone is working diligently on this potential threat.

Just in case, I won’t be licking any doorknobs or subway surfaces for the time being.

SNOWDEN UPDATE

There is a lot of talk of Snowden being given asylum in Switzerland.

Of course this can just be talk… a diversion from a real plan… or media hype surrounding a rumor.

…but, if it is true, it is pretty clear how it will turn out… badly for Snowden.

After watching how easily America forced change on the established Swiss banking industry, it is easy to suspect the Swiss could be pushed into assisting America with catching Snowden.

So, the Swiss offer Snowden asylum for promises of testimony that is not only needless (as it could be done on Skype) but is also counter to the wishes of every nation in Europe… which have all been happy to support America’s information-gathering abilities… as long as they were getting a cut of the information… which they still are.

As Snowden makes his “secret” way from Russia to Switzerland, he will be “caught”. The Swiss will lodge a public half-hearted protest of some sort on the front end and quietly accept thanks from American diplomats on the back end… along with whatever incentives they were promised.

Snowden is certainly a rat…

…and he will be caught with Swiss cheese.

How fitting.

TBONE HAS NOTHING REAL TO SAY AS USUAL

“a Kansas Democratic candidate who was told by state officials that he could drop off the ballot”

No. He SAID they said that… but they claim they did not. They probably did not say that because…

“only to have Secretary of State Kris Kobach reverse that decision and force him to stay.”

…or, more accurately, disallowed him to drop off the ballot because it would violate state law for him to do so.

I guess the last resort of scoundrels these days is to strictly FOLLOW the law, right?

I’m not sure that was a joke. It seems when Authority breaks the law, few actually care… especially if it can be spun as a fault in the System, an oversight, or for some greater good… yet when the law is followed, it is partisan or raaaacist.

Anyway, there IS a scandal here.

The real scandal is that the Democrat who wants to drop off the ballot is a clear loser… and his presence will split the Democratic vote with the Independent in second place who many Democrats support… as well as some Republicans who are fed up with the one they have… hence there is a good chance for the Republican to lose to an Independent… not quite a Democrat, but not a Republican, at least in that way of thinking.

This is certainly a good try on the loser Democrat’s part… and may or may not be ethical political maneuverings… but to frame it as an innocent act blocked by evil Republicans is incorrect.

The reality is they are all shytbags trying to subvert the spirit and intent of an open election to lean in their favor through every little trick possible… but to recognize that, both the Democrats and Republicans would have to recognize their own faults.

I didn’t bother with the Rachel Maddow video… as it required layers and layers of scripting and other nonsense to be uploaded to this computer on which most of that is blocked… so I am only refuting what Tbone is whining about based on an average of assorted sites that reported their versions of the “truth”.

If I am wrong, explain further.

TBONE IS BETTER AT LINKIN’ THAN THINKIN’

Again: “If I am wrong, explain further.”

…as explain in your own words, like a big boy, rather than let some agenda-driven link do your thinking for you.

Did I mention the law that would be violated if he was taken off the ballot was specifically made to keep the election process from being easily manipulated?

While that can benefit both Republican and Democrats, it seems to only be a problem when a Republican enforces it against a Democrat…

…well, until the tables are turned and a Democrat enforces a law on a Republican…

…at which point the Republican gets huffy and the Democrat innocently points to the law.

There are few heroes in politics.

We can only hope just laws will be made openly by those who are held accountable for them and they will be fairly and evenly enforced.

“Do you mean the video was partially non-blocked therefore “mostly blocked”?”

The video was fully blocked. The scripts were partially blocked. Even after allowing the first round of scripts to run, they simply tried to download a much larger pool of scripts that needed to be run to get to the video. I doubt Rachel Maddow has anything to say worthy of me letting MSNBC’s partner companies know that I watch Rachel Maddow. I notice websites that lean to the left and shed (false) tears over loss of privacy and government surveillance the most seem to be the most intrusive to their viewers.

In reality, blocking all this doesn’t do so much… but it makes me feel better not to support companies that insist on intrusive and invasive policies.

We all have our windmills to charge.

AS EXPECTED, TBONE.

Wow.

That Rachel Maddow thing is a sour and spiteful biitch hiding behind false cheer. I have never seen her before, having just assumed she was a shallow and inflammatory leftest answer to all those clowns on Fox… and I was right.

She really wants to be John Stewart or Stephen Colbert but she fails due to her mean streak that barely hides under the surface. Those guys are a pleasure to watch because they speak the obvious truth, or an actual facet of it, and demonstrate the humor in it.

In this video (much as I expected), Rachel Maddow lies through omission and tried to build scandal where there really is none… and she is mean and sour about it. And she is wrong… or close to wrong. She was very careful on her wording… leaving an impression of what happened rather than reporting the actual facts and how they fit together…

…which is why Tbone, and many like him, cannot explain in their own word exactly the situation… because, as I suspected, if you only listened to Rachel Maddow, you would only be able to come away with “Democrat Treated Unfairly, Republican Bad”.

I learned nothing from the videos that changed my opinion of the situation, of what I expected them to contain, or what I think of people who base their opinions on such videos.

Now, again, Tbone… I will happily debate you on this if you want to stand up and be your own man instead of thinking shallow leftest propaganda designed to inflame the emotions of the least educated segments of the Democratic voter base is some sort of primary source or convincing sales pitch.

…and, you have the advantage. I do not know the situation well. I simply looked at about 5 news reports on the matter and made my own opinion off the key points that were reported by everyone… except Rachel Maddow who skirted around the actual details that explain why this incident is happening.

1) It is good for the Democrats if he is off the ballot and good for the Republicans if he is on the ballot.

2) The law says his name cannot be taken off the ballot except under certain conditions.

3) He is a lawyer and can certainly understand the clearly written law… and he must know that his name cannot be removed from the ballot unless he files his paperwork in such a way to meet the conditions.

4) He did not do this and his response is, “…but they said my letter would be OK”… and then he is buutthurt when, due to his lack of due diligence, it is not OK. Perhaps they led him to file incorrectly so the deadline would pass… which is just as crappy as his little game to manipulate elections. Certainly no heroes here. Or, perhaps, with plans for a future political career, he wanted to avoid the legal requirement of declaring “that they are incapable of fulfilling the duties of office if elected”… hoping they would let it slide.

But, right or wrong, the law exists, he should have followed it, and it is being followed by the Republicans. So this is the result.

The scandal is not this situation. The real scandal is how crappy politics are and how the focus is on every little detail other than what is best for America and the American people who maintain it through hard work and caring.

If you wish to correct my facts or analysis, IN YOUR OWN WORDS, feel free to do so.

The first video is about Alaska and Nebraska while the second video is about Kansas. You see, 3 Red states(Alaska, Nebraska, Kansas) must like confusing people with ballots because in some cases people won’t be running but are yet on the ballot. And in each case it’s because of BAD NEWS for Republicans.

In Alaska there is Sean R. Parnell(Sarah Palin’s Lieutenant Governor) who took over when Palin quit and is running for re-election.
He was comfortably ahead in the race which included an Independent and Democrat until the (I) and the (D) got together to run as a “fusion” ticket.

In Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman(R) decided not to run for re-election and his Lieutenant Gov. Rick Sheehy(clean cut, handsome, former paramedic – the “perfect” (R) candidate) whom announced in 2011 that he’d be running in 2014 until records of his state cell phone were released showing his secret life. It was found that the playboy Rick Sheehy made 2300 phone calls to 4 women other than his wife, and one of the women came forward(not his wife) to tell details of a multiple year long relationship.
http://www.omaha.com/news/sheehy-steps-aside-after-phone-records-reveal-calls-to-women/article_6780a0f1-6c67-59e3-9457-763588bbc0f4.html

Ultimately Sheehy resigned and Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman(R) again needed a new Lieutenant Gov. for which he chose Lt. Gov. Lavon Heidemann. Huh, was that Heineman or Heidemann??? But Heidemann also resigned because of a domestic dispute involving police(remarkable details in video). Because all this happened AFTER the Sept. 1st deadline to take thy name off the ballot, he(Heidemann (R) was able to anyway.

You see, Republicans can have their names taken off ballots in Nebraska even though there is a law that says you can’t.

Now, the new Republican candidate for Governor(Pete Ricketts) will have to run against a viable and credible Democrat candidate(Chuck Hassebrook).
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/11/us/nebraska-candidate-switch-approved.html?_r=0

In Kansas, they(Director of Elections Brad Bryant) use wobbly hands, shrugs, and shoulder lift shrugs to express uncertainty.

Sam Brownback(R) has lost much support in the last month for his far right ideological little mind. Paul Davis(D) in now ahead in the polls so Sam Brownback now needs Secretary of State Kris Kobah(R) help. Although Kris Kobach(43%) is running for re-election as well but is behind a female Jean(46%) Schodorf(D) in the polls. This Kris Kobach is a real arsehole. He travels the country writing anti-immigrant legislation for Republicans in other states. He wrote the “Papers Please” law in Arizona and is the Republican Chief National Marketer of all kinds of laws to make it harder to vote i.e. voter I.D. laws etc…

Kansas picked Mitt Romney by 21% over Obama in 2012.

In the Kansas Senate race we had current Senator Pat Roberts(R) vs. Chad Taylor(D) until Chad Taylor announced he didn’t want to run anymore or wanted to drop out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ICWqlTZ2IM

That would leave only an Independent candidate(Greg Orman) to run against Pat Roberts(R). But now, well funded centrist Greg Orman has a chance since there isn’t(?) a split ticket. Pat Roberts was sailing to victory until Washington sent peeps to Kansas to help him.

Chad Taylor went down to the Secretary of State office(Kris Kobach) to terminate his candidacy, he spoke with the Director of Elections Brad Bryant on the last possible day to withdraw, was given explicit instructions required on how to have his name withdrawn. Chad Taylor said he followed the explicit instructions and got a “Yes”(also witnessed by Chad Taylor’s campaign manager) to reaffirm that his name would be taken off the ballot. Brad Bryant said “Yes, your name has been removed from the election ballot.”

The next day Kris Kobach said “No!” Chad Taylor cannot take his name off the ballot. Brad Bryant admitted in an affidavit that Chad Taylor asked about his name being removed but Brad Bryant never said “Yes,” because Mr. Bryant only gestured that “maybe” or the gestured answer was “uncertain” or “we’ll see” whether Chad Taylor’s name would be taken off the ballot.

Dave Bryant ended up taking Chad Taylor’s name off until Kris Kobach ordered him to put it back on…because “the paper work wasn’t filled in correctly.” And now the Kansas Supreme Court will decide on Tuesday, September 16th whether Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach can force the Democrat Chad Taylor’s name to remain on the ballot even though Chad Taylor followed the instructions and law to have his name removed.

CH wants to debate me but through his Wa Wonk Wa I can’t find anything worth debating. CH needs to be more specific about what he doesn’t believe about what R. Maddow said. He said…”And she is wrong… or close to wrong”

So WTF is your problem CH? What is she “wrong” or “close to wrong” about. Please, speak English this time.

Here you go CH, I will help you start the debate for which you so desperately want but were unable to begin. All you have to do is give me an example of what you said here…” leaving an impression of what happened rather than reporting the actual facts and how they fit together”

There, now maybe you can begin a debate but please try to refrain from the Wa Wonk Wa blah blah blah?

Now, I’ll try to deconstruct something you said which is wrong on at least one point and we’ll see about the other on Sept. 16th.
“2) The law says his name cannot be taken off the ballot except under certain conditions.”

But if you listened to the video or read my last comment you’d see that it’s okay for republicans to not follow the law(ignore the deadline) and have their names taken off(See Heidemann), so you know what you can do with your “law” argument. And, I’ll let you know what the Kansas Supreme Court says about your “law” on Tues. Sept. 16th.

“Taylor’s affidavit notes that the Secretary of State’s office initially removed his name from its online list of candidates after he submitted the letter. His name was placed back.

Kobach said that it is the office’s policy to do this when candidates submit paperwork to file or withdraw, but that the list does not equal an official ruling.

“The protocol is that you immediately put it up on the unofficial list on the website. And then if there’s any legal question … then the unofficial list is amended,” Kobach said.

I wish I were a fly on the wall when Kris Kobach went to Dave Bryant and the “gestured” story was made up. The Kansas Director of Elections says he gives answers by shrugging his shoulders which means “we’ll see” or “maybe.” Why is this? Is it because the Director of Elections is always double checked by the Kansas Secretary of State(Kris Kobach)? How often does the Kansas Secretary of State double check the work(forms) the Director of Elections allows/disallows?

Dave Bryant: I told Chad Taylor “Yes.”

Kris Kobach: Let’s just you didn’t and instead say you “gestured” to Chad Talor “maybe” by shrugging your shoulders or wobbling your hand. Hehehehehe

“The case will not be heard by a district court, as requested by Secretary of State Kris Kobach (R).”

Awww, too bad Kris Kobach. The Supreme Court will hear the case so you can’t obstruct in the district court. Hahahahaha!!!!!

This should be an interesting Supreme Court case… in the very rare chance they will bother with it.

“The Assistant Secretary of State didn’t know the law any better than my legal team, your honor, so… so… so… uh.”

As for the case of the Republican candidate being changed… well…

1) His reason for removing his name from the ballot was in compliance with the law. (It was also rather involuntary).

2) Even if it was not, these would be independent issues regarding the law and not cases of “little Billy jumped off the bridge, why can’t I?” The law really isn’t supposed to work that way.

In the end… this is typical partisan maneuvering and bickering… perhaps within the law, perhaps teetering on the edge, and certainly overshadowed by predatory and unethical plotting to try and get the other team to violate the law or commit some action that can be publicly spun to generate fake outrage.

There are so many other issues of true importance.

But to sum things up, your argument is…

1. I claimed that Rachel Maddow was misleading by selectively reported the situation but I didn’t give examples. You win this one by default. I certainly am not going to play it again and write down a list. On the off chance any unemployed masochists wish to hear her yapping, they can play it in the background and form their own opinions on which one of us better understands what’s happening.

2. Republicans may have violated the law and removed their candidate from the ballot… in another state… with different laws… and a very, very different situation… but, since Republicans removed a candidate in once place, Democrats can do it another place. Okeydokey. I imagine that kind of thinking hasn’t worked out real well for you in life.

3. The gesture story was made up. Hmm… possibly. But then a politician who is a lawyer who trying to make a political maneuver to screw over the opposing party should probably make sure all of his legal ducks are in a row before taking their word that he is going about his screwjob the right way. I’m not saying the world should work like this… but it does work like this… and this guy is a zero if he does not understand that.

Then again, maybe the gesture story was NOT made up… but was precisely plotted to give a non-answer that would be interpreted as the answer he wanted to hear which put him off until the deadline. I have only been doing this since I was a child…

Person pestering for a commitment: “But you said–”
Me: “No, I didn’t ‘say’ anything. I said uh.”
Person: “But that was uh-yes.”
Me: “No, that was just uh… and in this case it was uh-no.”

My wife is wise to this and will push for a spoken answer and make me repeat it back to her with follow-up questions to clarify every point… as “Yes, I will take out the trash” does not necessarily mean tonight… or even this week.

I don’t know what really happened. You don’t know what really happened. Rachel Madcow doesn’t know what really happened. And this guy who went in without reading the law and (maybe) took the word of the opposing team on what procedure he should follow to screw them over should have had a few witnesses with him instead of treating it as something he did on the way to getting the car washed.

So… again, this is a small issue.

What is your Ebola management plan, Tbone? Or have you been too busy fretting over the siren song of Rachel Madcow that you put no real thought into it?

TBONE MAKES NO SENSE

I am confused, Tbone.

When you said, “I wish I were a fly on the wall when Kris Kobach went to Dave Bryant and the “gestured” story was made up,” it seemed you believed the Republicans actually said yes and then made up a lie about the gesture… making the Republicans lying shytbags and the Democrat, Chad Taylor, a complete dumbazz for believing them without looking up the law himself.

Now you are saying, “I provided a link that shows there is zero debate about a gesture,” which indicates you believe the gesture was real… which makes the Republicans tricky shytbags and the Democrat, Chad Taylor, a complete dumbazz for believing them without looking up the law himself.

Any way it plays out, the Democrat is a dumbazz… since he is a lawyer and is certainly capable of reading and understanding the law.

In fact, the entire Kansas state Democratic party must be one big pack of dumbazzes to not have a whole team insuring their little plot to avoid a split election went through perfectly at every step. They should have been very sure of the law. They should have made sure the paperwork was perfect. They should have had several people file the paperwork to act as witnesses… and they should have expected Republican dirty tricks, advantage-seeking, and sneaky political maneuvers.

Amateur night in Kansas.

I think the real news story here is that the Democratic party, which attracts the faux-educated class and a large number of political grifters who find easier pickings than in the shark-infested Republican party, is filled with dumbazzes.

But we already knew that.

Korean(55) kills American female Army Vet(36)

The real story here is HOW they caught him.

“On May 16, 2013, Joy went to the Orange Public Library & History Center and logged on to a computer to use the Internet. He conducted web searches about the human body decay process, logged on to Facebook where he saw a post about an awareness walk for Ramos, and used a satellite map website to zoom in on a location near Santiago Canyon Road and Jackson Ranch Road.”

They watched his accounts, got the IP address from his Facebook login… and either went to the library and checked the history that Windoze collects or requested a record of his Internet activity that was tracked by the little Facebook, Google+, Twitter, etc. icon/webbugs.

This is unquestionably good policework… but, as we have increasingly seen, these same tactics are being used against citizens that are not engaged in any illegal activity…

…which is why I don’t believe anyone (including ROK Drop) should support intrusive scripting.

There is absolutely no good that can come of it… and there are many ways it can go bad… from vindictive politics to shady hackers.

Tbone,

The point isn’t that the public library is collecting information.

The point is that the police knew WHICH library… and even knew he went to a library to begin with.

…and knew that he had a Facebook account… and which one… and got Facebook to cooperate (or simply paid Facebook what is listed on their price sheet to produce records)… etc.

I cannot explain it more simply, I think.

GI Korea,

Fantastic. The profiles that Facebook is building on everyone, not just its members, is disturbing… and there may well be a time when some of this information becomes public and people have to explain to their families, their employers, or the police exactly why they went to some of those websites or wrote those “anonymous” comments. If the NSA can’t keep its computer files secret, which is their fukking jobs, there can be very little trust with private companies… as we see month after month.
