Korean Fans Show Little Class at Asian Games

So would these same people not stand for the Chinese national anthem as well since they killed more Koreans during the Korean War than the Japanese ever did during the colonial occupation:

Etiquette is a pivotal part of sports.

By this standard, the ongoing Asian Games leave a lot to be desired.

At the kickoff of the Korea-Japan quarterfinal soccer match, few Korean fans bothered to stand up when the opposing team’s national anthem was played.

A plea was repeatedly made through the public announcement system for the fans to stand up when the anthems were played at Munhak Stadium.

The fans’ behavior reflected the bitter memories of Japan’s 36-year occupation, but it is worth thinking what effects the Korean fans’ standing up in respect could have had on their image as the hosts of the Games.

It also marked a contrast to a group of Japanese fans remaining on their feet while the Korean national anthem was played after theirs was over.

“It is disrespectful to stay seated while other countries’ anthem is played,” said Na Kyung-im, a fan from Incheon. “If some foreigners sit and do that while Korea’s anthem is being played, do you think that makes you feel good?”  [Korea Times]

Not a big fan of standing for another country’s national anthem, especially when citizens of that country do not even bother to show the proper courtesy & respect for their own flag/anthem…besides, beer gets warm…

South Korea practicing for PyeongChang?

Looks like they might be stretching their cheating wings getting ready for the real payback in the upcoming games if you believe the other Asian participants in the ongoing games.

Top North Korea officials make rare visit to South as diplomacy ramps up
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/10/04/us-northkorea-visit-idUSKCN0HT00H20141004
Isolated North Korea sent its highest level delegation to South Korea on Saturday to attend the Asian Games closing ceremony amid a flurry of diplomatic activity which has raised hopes for improved ties between the arch rivals.
Heading the delegation was Hwang Pyong So, who arrived at Incheon airport in full military uniform, and Choe Ryong Hae, two senior aides to North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong Un.
Kim Yang Gon, a senior ruling Workers’ Party official and a long time veteran of dealings ties with the South, was also among the delegation.
South Korea welcomed the North Koreans’ visit and raised hope that it would lead to a breakthrough in ties that have been in a deep freeze for more than four years.
“The government hopes that the high level delegation’s attendance at the Asian Games closing ceremony becomes a positive occasion for improved ties between the South and the North,” said Unification Ministry spokesman Lim Byeong-cheol.
Hwang is the head of the North Korean army’s General Political Bureau, a powerful apparatus loyal to the secretive country’s leader and a key post overseeing the 1.2-million-member military.
Last week he took on the added title of vice chairman of the National Defence Commission, the supreme military council that Kim Jong Un himself heads, sealing his status as one of the most powerful men in Pyongyang’s leadership circle.

S. Korea is a sick host nation bunch in sports and the apple doesn’t fall far from the N. Korean tree. Oh, and it’s not only in sports. The gov’t invites foreigners to teach English then sends them on propaganda trips to Dokdo(two rocks in the Sea of Japan). The media has been known for tearing down their visitors and working English teachers with racist articles and TV news reports and trash television shows. The gov’t routinely plays the S. Korean national anthem at orientation expecting English teachers to stand up and pay respect to its flag. A very sick bunch of S. Koreans they are. S. Koreans will show its ugliness again during the 2018 Winter Olympics where the down hill racers/skiers will be hugely disappointed with the course while athletes from around the world will be cheated again in favor of the true ultimate # 1 pure race in the world…Koreans!!!

There’s some sort of international sporting event going on in Korea? Huh.

If I were on any international committee planning on where the next event would be held, this image of blatant disrespect for basic etiquette would stick in my mind…

I was there at the game and this article is making a mole out of the ant hill. Out of all those people around the stadium, maybe I saw about 3 or 4 dozens who remained seated out of tens of thousands who were standing.

Rob: “I saw about 3 or 4 dozens who remained seated out of tens of thousands who were standing.”

Were you drunk hanging out with CH?

Do you know what “few fans stood up” means? I’ll need a bit more than just your word in order to believe you when the KT had this to say…

Rob,
I just can’t believe that tens of thousands of S. Koreans stood up for the Japanese national anthem and if they did, then…”God Will Strike Down Upon Thee With Great Vengeance And Furious Anger” so they will know not to stand up next time.

Koreans believe in group think and act accordingly, therefore I believe the KT and not you.

Tbone wouldn’t have stood up…

…not because of nationalism…

…but because he was too busy sitting on a diick.
