|It was reported a few weeks ago that Seoul is planning to close the Seoul Station Overpass and turn it into a park, influenced by High Line Park in New York City (itself influenced by Promenade plantée in Paris). The Wall Street Journal Blog compares it to Lee Myung-bak’s Cheonggyecheon Restoration as a possible ‘pre-run-for-the-presidency project’ by Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon. [Popular Gusts]
Yes. Because closing roads in Seoul is a great idea!
Although counterintuitive, closing roads to make way for pedestrian/biking-friendly parks and routes usually works out well for the cities. Like most military folks, I’ve seen my share of cities, big and small. Seoul has improved greatly in the last 20 years, in large part due to projects like these.
Largely because they have added and expanded roads, not eliminated them. Cynical political theater.
Given all the non-transportation activities that take place near train stations, I think it’s going to be 반란을 일으키는…
