83% of Americans Supportive of US-ROK Relationship
|Despite what Donald Trump has been saying about the US-ROK relationship, the vast majority of Americans have a very positive view of both the military and diplomatic relationship with South Korea:
More than eight in 10 Americans say relations with South Korea are important while American support for the use of U.S. armed forces to defend the Asian ally stands at an all-time high, an opinion poll showed Tuesday.
The Chicago Council on Global Affairs released the survey results ahead of South Korean President Park Geun-hye’s visit to Washington this week. Park is scheduled to hold talks with President Barack Obama at the White House on Friday.
“As President Park Geun-hye visits the United States, American opinion of South Korea is largely positive. Majorities say US-ROK relations are important and see South Korea as a reliable partner,” the council said in a statement. [Yonhap]

Eighty-three percent? Really? I wasn’t aware that many Americans knew anything about our relationship with the ROK, let alone about the ROK itself.
Beat me to it, Bruce.
I find it highly unlikely 83% of Americans even know Korea is a country.
It is more likely the survey question was misunderstood and the “US-ROK” relationship was thought to be the “us and a rock (of crack)” relationship.
I was talking to someone back in America one time while I was on leave from Korea. I told this person I was stationed in Korea and he asked me how often did I get a chance to go out and explore the in jungles there.
When we bought Auto Insurace for our car, the agent on the phone told us that our insurance was only good in South Korea. If we went across the border, we would have to buy separate coverage for any stay in North Korea. 🙄
At least auto insurance in (South) Korea is cheap! The USAA rep told me the only place where it’s cheaper is for people assigned to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
