In 2005, some 11.35 million people used the airport, with this number rising to 15.72 million in 2010 and reaching 23.2 million last year. The ministry estimated traffic will hit 28.3 million people by 2018 and soar to 32.11 million in 2020.

Wow. I was stationed in Korea when it was gearing up for the ’88 Olympics. The country was pinning hopes for its economic future on the games. At that time, Cheju-do was a place that many everyday Korean people talked about, but never really hoped to visit. Thirty years later, it’s heartening to see tourism statistics like these.
