Picture of the Day: Ahn Cheol-soo Opposes Deployment of THAAD to South Korea

@Chickenhead, over at NK News a gentlemen by the name of John Lee has a good article about the political opposition to THAAD in South Korea. Incredibly Ahn thinks the deployment of THAAD should be put up to a referendum. So does Ahn think every defense matter should have a vote then? Why have a defense ministry? RIGHT TO REFERENDUM?

Not to be outdone, Ahn Cheol-soo, who has resigned from yet another leadership post recently, declared that the decision to deploy the THAAD battery should be put to a referendum.

Let’s be generous for a moment and forget that the majority of the South Korean people support deploying the THAAD battery and that if such a referendum were to be held, things would still go ahead as they will now. Ahn’s proposal, if acted upon, would bring to surface the disunity of the voters regarding an issue that is strictly related to national defense. And there will be disunity. How could there not considering how long the deployment of a defensive weapons systems has been politicized by those who oppose its deployment?

And let there be no doubt whatsoever that such disunity among South Koreans over a matter as grave as national defense would benefit no one except the boy king of the North. Anything less than steely determination in the face of an enemy will send an unmistakable signal to Pyongyang and everywhere else that South Korea will always capitulate at the first sign of a strongly worded letter.
