He embodies everything I despise about officers. So arrogant; takes a special kind of a-hole to make a big deal out of returning to the Philippines after he fled like a thief in the night with his wet-nurse in tow leaving so many to be tortured and killed. The way he acted like a King in Japan post-WW2, his bungling of Korean War (yes bungling because any dummy can come up with a “let’s do a sneak attack from the flank” plan), the stolen valor and the general a-holery of senior commanders of that time and you have probably the worst example of a SM ever.
I’m serious, if I ever go back to the RoK I hope it’s after I retire so I can hock a fat one right in the face of that statue and not worry about there being consequences with work.

I think I agree with you.
…and I want to be there with you…
…partially to support the cause…
…but mostly to watch you accurately hock a loogie 20 feet past a guard rail and 40 feet into the air with a sea breeze coming in from 3 o’clock.
Hah, if I get back there I’ll be going all in. Wait until I’m about to go back home, be in the park very early in the morning, hop the railing, start the hock during the dash, leaping upwards and firing at the apex.
From there I’m sure it’ll be a very Benny Hill’ish exit plan ending in my capture with the eventual blurb on The Korean Times about the “Foreigner defiling a military monument.” just before my expedited plane ride home with my wallet being somewhat lighter and my passport being on some list.
@Smokes, no doubt MacArthur was arrogant which I attribute to the fact he was a general officer since World War I. I think many people would become arrogant too if they were a general officer for 25 years. I think this was ultimately his downfall with the fiasco that happened during the Korean War.
If I ever go back to Korea I will be sure to sneak over to Incheon to spit on his statue. The MacArthur one, not sure if there’s a Neeson one. 😉
It’s so cute when actors forget they are just playing dress-up in a makebelieve world.
Smokes, why do you want to spit on the MacArthur statue?
