There seems to be a little confusion; the definition of what these people actually are follows:
A person whose job is to entertain others.

There is no actual objective to sports other than to entertain. It provides nothing but entertainment.

Even the Wikipedia definition says “athlete or sportsman.” Not all athletes are sportsmen and visa versa. Some athletes don’t entertain an audience or compete for awards but require a high level of athletic skill and training; elite rock climbers for example.
