President Park Geun-hye said Tuesday she will go the full distance with the impeachment process and has no intention of voluntarily stepping down.

Ahead of the scheduled National Assembly vote on a presidential impeachment motion Friday, Park met with Saenuri Party Chairman Lee Jung-hyun and floor leader Chung Jin-suk at the Blue House. After the 55-minute meeting, which was proposed by Park, Chung returned to the ruling party and made public Park’s position on the fate of a presidency gravely threatened by an influence-peddling and abuse of power scandal.

“If the impeachment process is moved forward as scheduled, and if the motion is passed, I am ready to stay calm and composed during the Constitutional Court’s deliberation on the legality of the impeachment,” Park was quoted as saying. “When the impeachment is passed, I will accept it and do all my best under that circumstance.”  [Joong Ang Ilbo]

You can read the rest at the link, but according to the article the constitutional court has up to six months after impeachment to determine its legality.

Korea throws itself into turmoil while Japan makes nice with Trump. And all of this happening right around the crisis of the exploding Samsung phones. How much will the Winter Olympics cost that country?

Sad!

When you hold a public office and millions of people are calling daily for you to get out it’s definitely time to go.

That she’s going to try and fight to salvage something out of this which is only going to add more stink to anything she’s remotely involved with only reinforces my suspicion that she really fancies herself as royalty.

“A week is a long time in politics.” ~Lord Havelock Vetinari.
I’m thinking President Park is expecting something interesting to come along to distract the masses. Then she’ll run the clock out with more successful, if lower key programs.

Surprised something hasn’t happened yet. Fatty Kim must be holding back, hoping Park leaves in disgrace.

My understanding is that the impeachment vote in the National Assembly will a secret vote. Seems like there are many ways that could go. Because if it were a public vote, an assemblymen/women would have to answer to his/her constituents for how you voted. But if it’s a secret vote – you can say I voted this way or that way – and you could be lying your ass off – and no one will ever know. I don’t want to start any conspiracy theories … but with the opposition party having so much fun raking Park and the Saenuri Party over the coals these past several weeks – I could maybe picture some of the opposition guys voting NOT to impeach just so they can drag this crap out for another year, completely decimate the the Saenuri Party in the process, and not leave a comfortable spot for Ban Ki-Mun to land after he gets back from running the UN.

Ban Ki-Mun doesn’t need a comfortable spot to land.

Nationalism, not globalism, is what allows Korea to thrive.
