Fellow ROK Droppers – Here early in the morning of January 23, 2017, I wish to remind everyone that this is the 49th anniversary of the capture of the USS Pueblo by the north Koreans. With all but a few of the survivors of the capture still alive today, would it not be nice if the U.S. could take back the property that north Korea purloined almost 50 years ago? My thoughts and prayers go out to the few remaining survivors of that terrible incident 49 years ago today.
“The case of the Korean businessman kidnapped (and killed?) in the Philippines last October gets curiouser and curiouser.”
It sure does. A good guess might be that this Korean was not randomly chosen to be a victim… but was involved in the drug trade and was fair game in the eyes of the police… who are themselves criminals.
This speculation is in keeping with the theory that the vast majority of Koreans killed in the Philippines (perhaps all but one example) fit into the categories of Involved in Crime, Offend Other Koreans Involved in Crime, Greedy Children Wishing for a Speedy Inheritance.
“BTW, and somewhat related, last week, President Duterte ordered his security forces to bomb extremist groups wherever they find them ,even if they have captives. The hostages will just be acceptable “collateral damage.””
It seems when the only reward for kidnapping is death, it takes away much of the motivation. Sure, it sucks for the first wave or two of hostages until the lesson is learned… but sometimes big-boy thinking requires the understanding of thoughtful long-term gain over short-term reactionary thinking with no real plan.
Reminds me of the old Keanu Reeves movie “Speed”:
All right, pop quiz- The airport
Gunman with one hostage He’s usin’ her for cover
He’s almost to a plane You’re a hundred feet away
Jack. Shoot the hostage. What? Take her out of the equation
Go for the good wound, and he can’t get to the plane with her
Clear shot You’re deeply nuts. You know that?
Shoot the hostage Geez
Except Duterte would say, “Kill the hostage”, lol.
Here is the stupidest thing I have read all day, $1.25 million for peeing in a bucket and needing therapy to deal with it:
A former high school student in California has been awarded $1.25 million for having been forced to urinate in a bucket after being denied a bathroom break.
A jury in San Diego on Wednesday ruled in favor of the former Patrick Henry High School student who had filed suit over the 2012 incident, initially seeking $25,000.
According to the complaint, the unidentified teen, who was 14 at the time of the incident, was not allowed to use the bathroom by a teacher during class because of strict school policies.
Instead, she was told to pee in a bucket in a supply room closet at the back of the classroom and then dump the urine in a sink.
The teen testified during the three-week trial that the humiliating incident had prompted gossip, lewd texts from fellow students and that she had attempted suicide.
“I’ve been doing personal injury cases for the last 20 years and this was one of my most unusual cases,” her attorney, Brian Watkins, told AFP.
“Something like this never should have happened to a 14-year-old girl just entering high school.”
He said his client, who is now 18 and still undergoing therapy, was satisfied with the verdict.
Sorry I haven’t checked in lately. I’ve recently stepped into a very senior position this last week and I have been very busy!
My role is one I have aspired to attain for quite some time. I just had to wait for enough people to come around to my way of thinking and see the vision that I see.
Now, that I am here I have gotten to work quickly trying to change directions and set things right. I am putting some of the best heads together to enact workable, effective solutions.
Right now, support for my leadership is around half and half, but hopefully more will get behind my efforts in due time.
I do wonder, when I finally hand over the reins to the next person, how history will have judged my performance. Honestly, the last couple gentlemen before me set the bar quite low, so I do have that going for me.
Signed,
Johnnyboy
P.S. In case you had ever wondered, my ROKDrop user name is derived from my middle name.

Woah!
Pretty Boy Floyd has been with us this whole time?
I have a pretty big test of my leadership coming up in the next few weeks. The stakes are higher than most people know.
You see, the district manager is visiting all stores in the area, and if I have everything in order we could win an award for the best KFC in four counties!
