Trump’s Armada Still Steaming Towards Korea

Considering all the media hype of using the Carl Vinson to bomb North Korea the carrier strike group does not even arrive in the East Sea until next week:

A U.S. Navy strike group led by third Nimitz-class supercarrier USS Carl Vinson will arrive in South Korea’s East Sea next Tuesday and likely participate in a joint military drill between Seoul and Washington to prepare for a possible missile threat from North Korea, officials from the South’s Ministry of National Defense said Monday. Discussions for the exercise are still ongoing, according to a senior official.

The arrival date, April 25, coincides with the 85th anniversary of the North’s Korean People’s Army, which Pyongyang might celebrate with a show of its military power. The local official said Washington was sending the Vinson strike group to South Korean waters because it deemed there was a high possibility the North will raise tension by a nuclear or missile provocation.  [Joong Ang Ilbo]

You can read the rest at the link, but the Carl Vinson was just at South Korea as part of March’s Foal Eagle exercise without the media hype it is getting now.

Many years back, right after Kim Jong Il had done/said something (can’t remember exactly what it was, there have been so many) the Airforce sent a pretty large force of F22s to Japan and they engaged in exercises with the ROK.

I’d been there when they were trying to decide when to go. It had been a year and a half earlier and took a lot of planning. Had nothing to do with DPRK provocations and they weren’t even thinking about significant dates for the DRRK, just when it would be feasible and the tankers available.

“but the Carl Vinson was just at South Korea as part of March’s Foal Eagle exercise without the media hype it is getting now.”

But in March, Trump hadn’t backed himself into a corner (likely by design) not to tolerate North Korean nuclear and missile testing.

The programs are essentially over. How they stay over is yet to be revealed.

My money is on NK doing something crazy in the next two weeks and Trump giving a firm and measured response with the clear threat of an even larger response can be given.

Means, motive, opportunity… and few possible negitive reprocussions.

If Trump doesn’t find an excuse to rain destruction on the NK nuke program, he is a puuuuuuuuuusy!

Bonus: the larger the North Korean retaliation, the bigger chance Korea will forget my car is one centimeter too low and I can go on about my life troubling nobody

But when’s it getting to the Sea of Japan?

China just awarded Ivanka Trump several patents and trademarks. Obvious China and Trump have some sort of deal.

I’m pretty sure the Boston Globe is every bit as reliable as the New York Times and CNN…. Seen any airplane-stealing black holes lately?

“But when’s it getting to the Sea of Japan?”

After it traverses the West Strait¹.

¹ The West Strait is a sea passage between Japan and South Korea, connecting the East China Sea and the Sea of Japan in the northwest Pacific Ocean. The strait is split by the Tsushima Island into the western channel and the Tsushima Strait.
