Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Dismissed from Service for Improper Relationship
Here is the latest example of a senior military officer having a mid-life crisis:
An Air Force officer who engaged in an unprofessional relationship with an airman 20 years his junior while commanding a small expeditionary base in Africa will be forced out of the service following a general court-martial last week.
A military judge ruled late Friday that Lt. Col. Denis Paquette should be dismissed from the service, the equivalent of a dishonorable discharge for enlisted personnel. The dismissal means that Paquette, a C-17 pilot and married father with more than 18 years in the Air Force, won’t be eligible for retirement benefits.
Paquette chose to have his case decided by a military judge. He pleaded guilty to fraternization; violating a lawful general order on one occasion by drinking more than two alcoholic drinks at a deployed location in less than 24 hours; and to impeding an investigation. [Stars & Stripes]
I recommend reading the whole thing at the link because this guy was running a base in Tunisa like a frat house while hitting on an 18-year old airman. I recommend to people having a midlife crisis to buy the sports car instead because ruining a military career over something like this is not worth it.
I thought this was going to be a story about wild sex romps in the commander’s hooch with other airmen testifying that the girl was heard screaming things like, “Pound it harder Sir!!” and “Oh Lt Col Paquette, don’t stop, I’m gonna come again!!”
But then I read the story and the sex part came down to …

It’s a legitimate problem when subordinates complain about preferential treatment and so forth though. Would’ve been better to remove him from command for “loss of confidence”, and let him retire in two years. But that’s only going by the article and it there might be a great, great deal of context missing.
There was a guy a while back who was texting female subordinates up to 400 times a day. I’m not sure how he got any work done, but he was creeping them out and they started to be afraid to show up to work…and REALLY afraid to say anything about it. None of this was illegal…exactly. Nothing about his mental evaluation would have made the papers, but, yeah, he was out of there.
There was a vice wing commander who was fired years back. He told his wife he was fired for telling “a bad joke”. She proceeds to post it all over social media. Her husband was fired for telling a bad joke! THat’s the problem…most of the context is private information and even the spouses often don’t know the real story. Sometimes the NEVER know the real story. In his case, after six months of media circus the real story came out. He’d been having an affair with his exec, and was stupid enough to exchange all the “love letters” on his government e mail account.
I’m glad they posted this. I was going to mention it a few days ago, but didn’t want to be a spoil sport about the AF Officers again 😡
