Probably destined for all the nK missiles. Solid fuel motors let you store the missiles in a ready to launch state, no signature of taking missiles to fuel up. Also, no need to de-fuel the missiles if you don’t need to shoot.
Was a sergeant missile crewman back in the early ’70’s on the peninsula. The sergeant missile and the honest john missile were both solid fuel rocket motors. Like Flyingsword said, you can do a fire mission, take them back down and put them back in the bunkers. No problem!
Seems like I read about solid propellant engines developing cracks under certain conditions…
