7th ID DMZ vet Gene Clarke continues to make great progress in his effort to move the start date of the presumptive period for exposure to AO near the Korean DMZ to 1 September 1967. In addition to the House bill (HR 3605), U.S. Senators Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) and Jon Tester (D-Mont.) today introduced a companion bill in the US Senate, S. 2038, the Fairness for Korean DMZ Veterans Act of 2017. This bipartisan legislation will expand presumption for veterans who served in the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).

The usual suspects clamor for gun control, accuse the NRA and GOP, and ignore the fact that the dishonorably-discharged atheist and fan of Antifa an CNN was legally barred from uying, owning, or even possessing firearms, much less murdering 26 people in a small-town Baptist church..
Some reports indicate the shooter draped an Antifa flag over the pulpit as he was engaged in killed the innocents inside.

In yesterday’s shooting, an armed citizen came to the rescue.
Since it was a rifle, he probably had to run out to the car to get it first…doubt he brought that with him to the pew.
Apparently something similar happened in Tennessee earlier this year. http://www.cnn.com/2017/11/05/us/texas-church-shooting-resident-action/index.html

LOL looks like folks didn’t like my cow image. Sorry, I thought that was hilarious. I must have a strange sense of humor.
“Some reports indicate the shooter draped an Antifa flag over the pulpit as he was engaged in killed the innocents inside.”
I’ve read that he was Antifa too. Wouldn’t surprise me, but I’ll wait for more confirmation before I believe it.

Good morning,
Forgive me if this seems callous, but I believe that the US must preserve the right of its citizens to bear arms, even if those arms are used at times to murder innocent civilians.
Comparisons to other nations with strict gun control can and will be made all day. Point and counterpoint go back and forth as to the merit or uselessness of their efforts to keep their citizens safe from gun violence.
None of that is as important as realizing that the US is different from other nations. From the very beginning, the right of the people to bear arms was enshrined in the constitution and for good reason. The citizenry is supposed to be able to defend themselves from threats, tyrannical or otherwise.
We pay a price for having this freedom. Knowing that innocent bloodshed is going to happen again, I still will not hand over the right to bear arms. Don’t forget, in the not so distant past, some countries saw the massacre of innocents after the average citizen’s guns were taken away.

Liz,
I liked your cow picture. Can’t think of a reason why, but it reminds me of my military service at times.

Loved the cow pic! It’s a shorter version of the old “Little Bird” joke
A little bird was flying south for the Winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.
Morals of the story:
1. Not everyone who sh*ts on you is your enemy.
2. Not everyone who gets you out of sh*t is your friend.
3. And when you’re in deep sh*t, but warm and happy, it’s best to keep your mouth shut!
This story pretty much sums up my military career…
Johnnyboy: “the right of the people to bear arms was enshrined in the constitution”
Maybe.
The correct way to understand it is that Americans already had the right to keep and bear arms before the Constitution. The Second Amendment does not actually grant that pre-existing right. It prohibits the government from trying to take it away.
“the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Read the actual wording of the First Amendment with that thinking in mind as well…
…and you will find most of your “Constitutional Rights” are rights you already had… and the Amendments simply forbid government from trying to take them away.
Kinda gives a new outlook on the Constitution and the intentions of the Founding Fathers who weren’t all hot is the àss to beg to be granted rights they felt existed by default.

CH,
I think I understand your sentiment. Natural law. I have the right to self defense and to protect my family.
Honestly, self defense is somewhat of an obligation. If you don’t defend yourself, who will? No one who is likely to get there in time.
Disturbing reports have emerged from North Korea stating that the country’s nuclear program has had a crippling effect on nationals who live near a major testing site.
The Research Association of Vision of North Korea spoke with 21 defectors from Kilju, a town near the Punngye-ri nuclear test site where six tests have been conducted, according to South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo.
The group painted an extremely bleak picture of the current state of the region, claiming that about 80 percent of trees planted in the city die and that all of their underground wells have run dry due to nuclear activity.
“I heard from a relative in Kilju that deformed babies were born in hospitals there,” one defector told the paper.
The old ‘I heard it from a friend who was totally there when it happened” is one of those things you have to take with a grain of salt, but North Korea isn’t a place well known for their safety proceedures.
And as always, Yahoo News is about as reliable as the defunked Weekly World News.

They might be getting deformed babies from malnutrition, too. 🙁
Ha! I knew he was going to try what I suggested and sneak up there. Ok maybe they didn’t get from me…
As for the fog, I do remember when we lived in Yangju some mornings you couldn’t see more than a few feet outside the windows on foggy days and we were up on the 22nd floor. I don’t find it implausible that fog ruined the trip. 😕

I went to the Yongsan Garrison Town Hall a few days ago. Yongsan is finally moving south in earnest. The Area II population went from 22K to 17K when 8th Army left, and will be down to 11K by next summer. In 2019, the final anchor at Yongsan–121 Hospital–moves and that will pretty much be all she wrote. The first fence line move is in a couple of months when the north side of Camp Coiner is transferred to the US State Dept.
November 5th is my sister’s birthday. I just thought I would write that. No special reason.
Happy birthday, Tim’s sister! 🙂
(on fall daylight savings too. the day everyone gets an extra hour sleep is a good day for a birthday!)
just discovered this lady. Gave me a laugh this morning, thought I’d share. She’s pretty funny:
