Man on Guam Who Was Born White Says He Is a “Transracial” Filipino
|If you didn’t guess it already from the picture below the man featured in this article says he is transexual as well:
Ja Du, born a white male named Adam, now considers himself a Filipino.
He even drives what he calls a Tuk Tuk, an Asian-derived vehicle used for public transit in the Philippines.
Ja Du is part of a small but growing number of people who call themselves transracial. The term once referred only to someone (or a couple) of a one race adopting a child of another, but now it’s becoming associated with someone born of one race who identifies with another.
Ja Du says he grew up enjoying Filipino food, events and the overall culture.
“Whenever I’m around the music, around the food, I feel like I’m in my own skin,” he said.
“I’d watch the History Channel, sometimes for hours … nothing else intrigued me more but things about Filipino culture.” [Guam PDN]
You can read more at the link, but how many ROK Drop readers are ready to declare themselves transracial Koreans because it appears it is okay to declare whatever ethnicity you want to be now.
Ja Du = 자두 = Korean word for plum.
“Ja Du = 자두 = Korean word for plum.” has absolutely nothing to do with the article itself but thanks.
In German it means, “yes, you”
LOL
When I read something like this, I wonder:
1) Why on earth did this make international news?
2) What did the parents do wrong? THAT should be the story.
Maybe I wasn’t paying attention… but I never saw a tuk tuk in the Philippines. I rode a lot of tricycles.
Also, he would be a transsexual transracial Filipina rather than Filipino, emirite?
I, myself,identify as black.
…’specially when I am taking a pee in the dark.
Tricycles? I thought they called them Kathoeys? 😎
Here we go with the nationality verses race verses ethnicity. http://affinitymagazine.us/2016/05/31/race-vs-ethnicity-vs-nationality-learn-the-difference/
Nationality (noun) is the relationship between a person and the political state to which he belongs or is affiliated.
Ethnicity (noun) is the identification of a person with a particular racial, cultural, or religious group.
Race, well five racial groups of humans; these are the following:
1. Caucasoid (European)
2. Capoid (South African black)
3. Negroid or Congoid (East African black)
4. Australoid (Australian and Oceanic)
5. Mongoloid (Asian and Native American)
The Filipinos are not a homogeneous race or ethnic group. In fact, here is a short list of ethnicities in the Philippians: http://www.ethnicgroupsphilippines.com/people/ethnic-groups-in-the-philippines/
In fact, Filipino refers to nationality, not ethnicity. So fairly easy if he was to change his nationality to Filipino, harder (impossible) to change his race.
I, myself, identify as enjoying a tasty breakfast; but we all have our castles in the clouds. Most people don’t live in their daydream castles. Those who do are affectionately known as nuts, loonies, the patient in room 325, or Hillary.
