Ruling South Korean Party Wants Inter-Korean Summit in 2019

It appears that 2019 is the timeframe that the Moon administration will push to get a freeze deal agreed to with North Korea:

South Korea should push for a summit between President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in the first half of Moon’s term, a senior ruling party lawmaker said Thursday.

Rep. Lee Hae-chan of the Democratic Party made the suggestion in a speech set to be delivered at a security conference, saying 2019 will be good for a summit because the year is meaningful as the 100th anniversary of the 1919 nationwide uprising against Japanese colonial rule and the establishment of a provisional government.

“If possible, it’s important to push for a South-North summit in the first half (of Moon’s five-year term),” Lee said during the conference organized to mark late former President Kim Dae-jung’s winning of the 2000 Nobel Peace Prize following the first inter-Korean summit ever earlier that year.

“If a summit takes places in the second half, it would be difficult to guarantee its effectiveness,” he said.  [Korea Times]

That last sentence leads me to believe that the Moon administration has little confidence that what they have planned will be popular enough with voters to elect another liberal President to follow through with whatever is agreed to at this summit.

Moon did this just before the Washington meeting with Trump, that is, send out a party hack to float the unification balloon. In that case, the response was so negative that it basically disappeared for several months. Now he’s doing it again, and again, it gives him deniability, “Oh, Lee Hae-Chan wasn’t espousing official party policy, it was his own idea.” And note that the quotation begins with the ass-covering phrase, “If possible.” I’m inclining more and more to the idea that Moon is a bit of an idiot, someone who’s been living in his own ideological bubble for so long, he really thinks these are actually good ideas. My guess would be that the only thing which restrains him is his morning reading of the polls. So look for some more “Man of the People” photo-ops in the coming days.

If Moon talks about this US that if Korea wants a freeze deal the US will immediately remove all forces and support from South Korea. If they don’t want to be ready to protect their country why should the US HAVE to?

When you go to China, and the Chinese Security Guards stomp your photographers:
http://mengnews.joins.com/view.aspx?aid=3042079

BEIJING – Two Korean photojournalists were severely beaten by Chinese security guards Thursday while trying to cover President Moon Jae-in’s attendance of a trade event in Beijing, hurting Seoul’s efforts to repair frayed ties with Beijing.

The Blue House said it lodged a strong complaint with the Chinese government through the Foreign Ministry. A senior presidential official said an investigation is ongoing to identify assailants and it was unclear whether they were Chinese security forces or agents of a private contractor hired by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency for the event.

Doesn’t look like Kowtow 2017 is going all that well for Moon and Company. North Korea blows him off, China beats up the photographers covering the event, and South Korea can’t even get a conviction of the previous President even with planted evidence.
