IOC President Wants to Visit North Korea to Beg Kim Regime to Participate in Winter Olympics
Most of the world and the IOC fought to keep Apartheid South Africa out of the Olympics, but North Korea a country with a far worse human rights record and a threat to world peace has South Korea and the IOC literally begging them to participate:
International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach is seeking to visit North Korea to discuss its participation in the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games, South Korean government sources said Friday.
“The IOC is believed to be discussing with North Korea a possible trip by President Bach to Pyongyang for talks on the country’s participation in the PyeongChang Olympics,” a source said.
The IOC is seeking the visit based on close consultation with the South Korean government.
It remains to be seen, however, whether the North would accept Bach’s visit despite heightened tensions over its nuclear and missile tests. The North last week test-fired an intercontinental ballistic missile that appeared capable of reaching Washington DC.
“There is no guarantee that the visit will take place. But if it does happen, it could be interpreted as a positive sign for North Korea’s participation in the PyeongChang Olympics,” another government source said, adding that there was a possibility of a lower level official of the IOC making the trip instead of Bach. If they get them to commit to the games, then there is an almost 0% of a provocation during the Olympics. This will help them sell their tickets.
BMW is right on the money.
No!
It has become evident that the problem isn’t so much with North Korea as it is with South Korea. The Koreans don’t care about human rights abuses and threats to world, they care about their economy and they are willing to risk everyone and anything to protect it.
We need to cut all ties with South Korea. North Korea could murder infants on live TV and South Korea would do everything in its power to prevent war least its mega corporations stock drop or their tourism takes a hit.
I am DONE with south korean and their government. They are NOT an ally.
I guess Byeon hates the dog meat trade too.
Don’t know what happen to the up voting but I would up vote Byeon’s comment. Also, not sure nK participation would prevent provocation.
“The Koreans don’t care about human rights abuses and threats to world, they care about their economy and they are willing to risk everyone and anything to protect it.”
Human rights start at home.
Insuring quality of life for 50 million South Koreans is the primary function of the South Korean government.
Promoting human rights for North Koreans is a noble project… as long as it does not affect the quality of life for South Koreans.
South Korea’s South Korea First policy is correct for South Korean people.
Nobody has to like it when it conflicts with their goals… but it is best to understand and respect it… because it works.
