“Trump administration had already provided assurances to China’s leadership that if American forces landed in North Korea to search for and deactivate nuclear weapons, the troops would do their work and then retreat.”
Nice. The strongest army in the world is left doing EOD duty for the Chinese.

You accepting the NYT as a source of truth is more pathetic than anything South Korea did this month.
And frankly, having us do it is better than trusting Moon or Beijing not to ship the parts to Iran or Syria.

Sorry about the sharp tone. No beeakfast or coffee today as I sit here waiting for a CT scan of my lungs. That’s no excuse for boorishness. I guess I let my feelings about the NYT roll over too far. I hope you all can forgive me.

Last week the Yongsan Commissary removed seven of its checkout lanes and sent them down to Camp Humphreys (according to one of the cashiers). Slowly but surely, Yongsan is going away.

No worries. I’ve seen people speak more rudely in the past.
Best of luck on your CT Scan. Been down that road. PET Scan next? That’s what they did for me, as they checked out my tongue. Chemo and Radiation suck the big one. But they can be survived.
As for the “spin,” it’s pretty much what several of us have said all along here at ROK Drop: If war breaks out, we stop the NorKs hard, go in, get their nukes before someone ships them out to the highest bidder, and then fall back. Let the South Koreans handle the rebuilding and “occupation” of the North as money flows in to rebuild them up to modern speed.
The Times is just trying to play it as if the US is too scared to put our troops on China’s borders; while it’s actually more of a diplomatic approach. Don’t give folks more ammunition, don’t give China a reason to arm some faction or another. The US should have expected that in Iraq, as the Iranians armed some of the militias that were, or should have been, on our side.
SEOUL (Reuters) – South Korea’s coast guard said it fired 249 warning shots over a group of Chinese fishing boats “swarming around” one of its patrol ships in South Korean waters, prompting a call for restraint from Beijing.
South Korean coast guard vessels regularly chase Chinese boats suspected of fishing illegally in South Korean waters, at times sparking violent confrontations, complicating a relationship which is key to efforts to try to rein in North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs.
So, what’s the over/under on a North Korean provocation before the 2018 Winter Olympics? People take caution around a big dog, but tend to ignore their own quiet little lap dog.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has upped the ante in his war on Christmas with a new rule that prohibits any “gatherings that involve alcohol and singing.”
Does he know no shame? No alcohol or singing? Is he a US Army General, in charge of US 8th Army?
Happy Holidays!

Guitard, Did they take a bunch of the beggars, err I mean baggers, with them? lol Nothing against the baggers, I just always thought it should be for kids trying to earn extra money, and not a job for adults.

I hate those beggar ajeoshis with a passion. Even when kids are hired, they still force them to split the tips among ALL employees. That’s bullshit.
What if the embassy moving to Jerusalem was all about an excuse to cut off aid to some nations?
Did Trump figure out how to offset some of the tax cuts?
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t really care all that much where the recognized capital of Israel is. I just don’t think the rest of the world should care as much as they do either. Maybe the threat of extra terrorism for voting the wrong way was more persuasive than the threat of losing aid from the US.

Semi-related to baggers at the commissary … I wish they would set up a couple of self-checkout lanes like you find at pretty much every commissary in the US. And yes – I’ll fully admit I’m a cheapskate.

I’m surprised they don’t. It sucks to just go in for a couple of items and feel obligated to pay a tip every time. Kind of reminds me of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sBZstD-UEk

No country should have the audacity to tell any other country where to place it’s embassy in a third country. And no one complained about the Russians when they moved their embassy to Jerusalem.
