Seoul Bans Food and Beverages on All City Buses
|It will be interesting to see how strictly this is enforced:
Boarding bus passengers will now be greeted by signs telling them not to bring food and beverages on with them.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government put up signs at every bus stop and bus on Thursday. The signs read, “Let’s not carry coffee or any other food and beverages when boarding the bus. Bus drivers may deny passengers carrying any food or beverages in cups, or other unsanitary and dangerous items to maintain safety and prevent any harm to passengers.” [Joong Ang Ilbo]

As a daily bus rider, I could see this coming. Trash (bags, wrappers, cups) left behind has been on a slow but steady increase over the last five years. It’ll ruin my morning ritual: get a mocha at Holly’s Coffee, ride the bus to Yongsan, enjoy the now-cool-enough-to-drink coffee while settling in at work. Hopefully, this will go the way of the mandatory city bus seatbelt law that was supposed to go into effect back in 2014 or so. The effective date came and went; never heard another thing about it.
They’ve become Coffee Nazis if you have it in your hands.
Maybe it’s okay if it’s gift-wrapped?
Out of sight, out of mind. 😉
Liberals, banning in the name of safety since forever.
When you hear the words “for your safety” or “for the children”; you must realize you are about to loss some right or have to pay more taxes…and usually both.
