KATUSA Soldier on K-16 Airbase Marries American Woman
|Via a reader tip comes this AFN report from last year about a KATUSA soldier that was reportedly the first to marry an American woman while still completing his mandatory service obligation:
All the best to the couple.
A lovely couple and I wish them a successful marriage and wonderful life. God Bless them both.
The hubby who looks like fresh out of high school looks ten years younger than the wife.
Congratulations.
Like Doug said.
Why is this news?
“Why is this news?”
It’s very, very rare that a KATUSA gets married while still serving his conscription. It’s just that much rarer that a KATUSA gets married to a non-Korean while still serving.
None of the KATUSAs I ever served with were married while still on active duty. Were any of the KATUSAs you served with married while they were still serving?
Ten years ago it was rare to see foreign women give Korean guys the time of day.
Now, there is a subset of foreign girls who seek Korean guys. Some of them get a little fedishized about it… memorizing all the Kpop lyrics and buying several sets of hanbok.
But I see their point… the Korean guys they seek are much cooler and more confident than in the past… yet still retain some nicer manners than a lot of the foreign guys.
I know two great American girls who married great Korean guys who are cool yet not dıcks.
“Now, there is a subset of foreign girls who seek Korean guys. Some of them get a little fedishized about it…”
They’re part of a group called “Koreaboos.”
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Koreaboo
A non-native Korean who is obsessed with Korean culture to the point where they denounce their own national/native identity and proclaim that they are Korean. These people typically start off as K-Pop fans, but some Koreaboos also start off as StarCraft II or League of Legends fans since they are very famous competitive sports in South Korea. The word “Koreaboo” itself comes from the term “weeaboo”; a non-native Japanese person who is obsessed with Japanese culture.
LOL Koreaboos.
Who knew that was a thing?
Oh. Right. There are people so eager to be a part of something bigger than themselves they “self-identify” as something less boring than they perceive their actual life.
I guess it’s kinda like me and my leather A2 jacket from Mike’s Arcade. They didn’t have those in SAC when I was in, just Nomex… Nor did they have many on flying status with my current BMI…
I self-identify as a cancer-survivor, too. But you don’t graduate until you hit five years…
Good thing there isn’t an attractive pop music and computer game filled country call Jigistan.
CH… living at the point of the spear…
I suppose this really is BIG news! Like “White girl marries Black man in Alabama.
LIMERICK
Guitard told me the news
of this term they decided to use.
Korea-loving is fine
but I’m spending my time
looking for Mycockaboos.
Which had a higher chance of happening: Him becoming a Korean-American, or her becoming an American-Korean? 😛 😛
It must truly be about love.
She’s a civilian so she can’t get him into the PX-soo.

The veins in his neck, they were popping.
And he was so mad he was hopping.
He liked riding white horse.
Now he wants a divorce .
As she can’t get him into base shopping.
