I wish they’d all do it. I had a 14 year career as a Military Working Dog handler and trainer. The DoD Dog Agency doesn’t accept pits because their aggression can’t be “controlled” like it can be with the Shepherds, Malinois, Rotties, etc. In the DoD Dog Agency, it’s all about “controlled” aggression. Every trait bred into pits is counter to service or comfort. Think comfort tiger; it’s kinda like that.
Mid ‘80s, I attended an advanced MWD training course where the Dog Agency’s animal behaviorist (i.e., dog psychologist) showed a chart graphing the aggression gene of the various breeds the agency used. All the breeds we used (some previously mentioned) were all with 10 percent of each other with minor ups and down along the graph line. Until the end. He also listed one breed we didn’t use: The Staffordshire Terrier (Pit Bull). It was the last dog listed and it’s aggression gene spiked high off the chart. Just to show why we didn’t use that breed: It’s aggression cannot be controlled.

And I’ve heard/read ALL the arguments from pit lovers, my daughter being one. I just don’t like the breed; never have, never will. With my experience training police/attack dogs, I can tell you if I ever got on a plane with a pit anywhere on board, I’d politely get off. I don’t care if I was sitting next to it, behind it, in front of it, or 10 rows away. If it’s on the plane, I’ll wait for the next one, than you very much.

If you can’t go into public without an emotional support animal, you don’t need to be going into public.

CH, think of the children… Oh. Wait. You’re right.
Children shouldn’t be exposed to adults who “literally just can’t.”

Sometimes it’s not about the person but the dog.
My mom in law has a neurotic dog.
Putting a vest on it and buying it a seat on a plane as an “emotional support animal” is the only chance it won’t expire in the cargo hold.

Yes, CH, it is her fault to making it neurotic.
I’m hoping when they arrive for my spouse’s retirement the dog will be okay with our little rat dogs (or I will kick them into the back yard…as our dogs understand they aren’t very important).
There’s a story there I won’t get into (the dog was actually trained to be an emotional support animal).
Everyone has a messed up family, right? 😆
The song we’ve chosen for my spouse’s retirement is:
My Way, by Sinatra.
Very much looking forward to this. 🙂

Nice video about a USFK Colonel who donated his grandfather’s Korean War era color photos to the ROK Army.
@Smokes, that is interesting that DoD decided to make a compensation payment on behalf of someone not even in DoD. Gadson was a private contractor working for the base’s cable company. This may set a precedent now that DoD will pay compensation for every crime now committed by base contractors. It makes me wonder that if this was a Japanese national base contractor that committed the crime would DoD have still paid compensation?

Doubt it. The better question is what will cost more; to pay into the compensation or to pay the costs of dealing with the protests that will follow? Sometimes you end up paying both (see Yangju)… price of doing military business in a foreign land I guess.

Sad case all ’round. Hopes and prayers that employee screening procedures improve dramatically.

I hope this results in the Democrats sorting out who they actually want to be.
I’m not a member of any organized political party, I’m a Democrat!
