He probably had an office job like most entertainers get. My nephew was on one of those self-propelled guns down in Chungcheong Do. Didn’t really envy the guys on the DMZ or those islands in the West Sea…

Similar to what the US Army did with Elvis and other entertainers during the draft years, assigned them nominally to a unit but loaned them out to Special Services to they could use their talents to entertain the troops. At least he served, he didn’t hide out in another country or try to get an exemption for “service to the country in an political, artistic or athletic endeavor” I think that was the wording in English…
