Picture of the Day: The DMZ Near Cheorwon

DMZ separating two Koreas

Shown is the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on the border with North Korea in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, on July 24, 2018. The Defense Ministry said on the day it is pushing for a plan to withdraw forces and equipment from border guard posts “on a trial basis” in line with the April inter-Korean summit agreement to halt all hostile acts and reduce tensions. Well, it’s their country; but I am not too comfortable trusting KJU quite yet.

Completely asinine. I would recommend all foreigners leave South Korea immediately and all companies with any investments in South Korea sell them off or remove them from this country before they are lost.

My hope is that the GPs will not have to be reoccupied, but i am skeptical. Too many days in the Z to trust the North Koreans. But if it works, it will be good. If the South Koreans have to go back, I want them to have engineers carefully check the GPs for booby traps.

Koreans spend little time on risk assessments. Worked with ROK planners for many.years and the only planning they can do is a route to next soju hole. Stupid decision. However, we shall see.

Who needs built-in defensive positions? Go ahead and pull back 3 miles and sit in open valleys. We’ll see what happens.

Last one out of North Korea, make sure you turn off the lights. Oh, wait, there are no lights to turn off! Nevermind.
