The Joint Security Area Completes Its Disarment

It’s official the JSA has now been disarmed:

The two Koreas and the U.S.-led U.N Command (UNC) on Thursday wrapped up the process of disarming the Joint Security Area in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), Seoul’s defense ministry said.

As of 1 p.m., they completed the work of withdrawing military posts, armed troops and firearms from the JSA in the buffer zone separating the two Koreas, in line with last month’s inter-Korean agreement aimed at reducing tensions, preventing accidental clashes and building mutual trust.

On Friday and Saturday, the three sides will carry out joint verification work to ensure that the JSA is completely disarmed.

“The military authorities of the two Koreas and the UNC will make joint efforts to ensure that the JSA disarmament, stated in the Sept. 19 military agreement, will be implemented normally,” the ministry said in a statement.  [Yonhap]

You can read more at the link, but the ROK soldiers there better be ready to put their taekwondo to use.

Just wait, the Norks will ask for the ability to cross the line anywhere in the JSA just like it was before the Axe Murders…easier to take everyone by surprise…

Doc, I anticipate part of the JSA disarming thing is to ensure the Norks can chase wounded defectors halfway back to Seoul without being shot at…

This is asinine. No US commander should send troops to the JSA now.

“As of 1 p.m., they completed the work of withdrawing military posts, armed troops and firearms from the JSA”

Yeah. At the first sign of a defector, the firearms will come out up north.

South Korean and American soldiers with stupid looks will have to remove their thumbs from their azzes to go look for cover.

But let’s see what happens.

Moon’s lovefest might be Trump’s honeypot for regime change.

And if nothing happens… well… love and peace isn’t so bad, is it?

A repeat of the axe murders is a real possibility.

More likely a repeat of 1975 with the Commies marching south and no one to stop them.

Calm down Rascal1212. No US troops have been in or on the DMZ since they officially were pulled out in 1991 turning over all border guard responsibilities to the ROK Army. And no US troops have patrolled the JSA since 2004. (The small detachment of US troops that were serving at the JSA were only there as English-language tour guides and to help in providing security for visiting VIPs.) All of the JSA’s security operations and patrolling activities have been carried out exclusively by the all-ROK Army UNC JSB since 1994.
