Whitey Paik, still going strong. They don’t make them like they used to. He saved South Korea.

He may have saved Korea, but he’s regarded by the Progressives as a hard line crazy rightwing Taekgukki brigade by many young South Koreans who do not appreciate their veteran soldiers. Many of the same South Koreans do not even know who started the Korean War. Many of them think America started the war and that South Korea is a colony. Believe it or not, that’s what are taught in many South Korean schools these days that have teachers that are members of the very politically powerful extreme leftist Korean Teacher’s Union (전교제) who use the classes to brainwash young Koreans. They’ve been doing that for decades now. Each time South Korean government tried to break their spell, resulted in huge protests, accusations of anti-democracy / anti-free-speech / military dictatorship/ on and on. But now that the new Moon government came to power, these groups of teachers have been unleashed without any restrictions. We’re losing the battle of educating the young South Koreans with the leftists in firm control of the country’s education system. Because of this, the future looks far dimmer for South Korea’s freedom and its alliance with the United States.

I doubt that many young South Koreans even know who he is. A typical response would likely be: “General Paik Sun-yup? I think I’ve heard that name before. Who was he?”

Not to mention, the guy is 97 years old and confined to a wheelchair. It’s not like he’s out there in the street leading the flag wavers.

I have seen him on base at Yongsan a few times in recent years at the Hartell House and Greenstreets (DHL).
