President Trump Says ” Sometimes You Have To Walk” After Failing to Reach Denuclearization Deal with Kim Jong-un
|It looks like President Trump is not interested in the “pretend denuclearization” that the North Koreans want and instead is committed to pressuring them to really denuclearize by walking away from the summit:
U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un failed to reach an agreement on denuclearization at their summit here in the Vietnamese capital, Thursday.
Korea Times
Ultimately, the breakdown of the summit “was about sanctions,” Trump said in a press conference after the meeting with Kim.
“It wasn’t a thing to be signing anything today. He (Kim Jong-un) is quite a guy, quite a character. We had some options but at this time, we decided not to do any of the options,” Trump told reporters in a hurriedly arranged press conference after holding extended talks with the North Korean leader.
“Sometimes, you have to walk. This was just of those items. Basically, they (North Korea) wanted the sanctions lifted, and we couldn’t do that. We haven’t given up anything. He wants denuclearization. He just wants to do areas that are less important than what we want.”
Ahead of the conference, the White House said in a statement that dialogue on nuclear disarmament would continue. “Their respective teams look forward to meeting in the future.” But top U.S. officials went on to say that the negotiations will take time.
You can read more at the link, but I have to wonder if the North Koreans misread the Trump administration based off of media coverage? Maybe they thought that with all the negative media and analysts saying Trump was desperate for a deal that they actually believed it; thus they kept pressuring him on sanctions thinking he would fold. If this what the North Koreans were thinking they obviously don’t know President Trump very well.
It seems the one good thing that came out of this summit is that Kim Jong-un has heard for himself from President Trump instead of from surrogates and the media that he is serious about sanctions remaining in place until they commit to real denuclearization.
I guess I need to retract previous opinions. Maybe John Bolton and company finally convinced President Trump that KJU is a habitual lier, brutal despot, murderer, and torcherer. However i also think that MJI, RUS, PRC and others will continue violating UN sanctions.
Better luck next time Fatty.
PS: Commie Moon still loves you and will give you his southern world!
And now the leftist US news media will report that Trump and the summit was a complete failure.
Trump is not a wuss like Clinton, Bush, or 0bama… he won’t have to nuke Pyongyang… After this, Beijing will…
Not a Trump fan, but I actually like this. A few left leaning friends are celebrating his “failure” but I’m glad he held the line.
That was a huge production for so little show. Why take a presidential entourage to Vietnam only to discover they didn’t have an agreed upon definition of something as basic as “denuclearization?” That’s something their staff people should have worked out long before scheduling a summit.
Just saw Gen Brooks on CBS. Didn’t much like him when I worked for him. Still don’t like him. Maybe Fox News should work him over.
Let’s see if Korcky Dim goes home and launches a test Missile now. Then we will know it’s back the way it was.
“That was a huge production for so little show. Why take a presidential entourage to Vietnam”
Unlike every previous president, Trump has done everything right.
His goals are clear. His demands are clear. His willing concessions are accommodating without being self-destructive.
He has made valid threats which he previously laid the logistical groundwork to carry out.
With insults, compliments, threats, and offers, he has used the best tactics of negotiation and diplomacy to corner his opponent and make their best escape the direction he wants them to go.
And most importantly, he has put great effort into establishing a record of due process… so if violence is used against North Korea and all the scolds, foreign and domestic, who support dictators, criminals, death camps, communists, etc, shreak that Trump is a war-mongering racist fascist Nazi, he can point to the years of trying to work with North Korea in sincerely trying to help them be a prosperous nation in exchange for not being a global threat.
The media won’t buy it… but the public will understand it.
And the history books will sympathise with it.
It baffles me the number of “Americans” who WANT to see America fail simply because they don’t want Trump to succeed… for reasons they cannot even clearly explain. I don’t consider these self-destructive people, who would gladly take me down with them to satisfy their indoctrinated ideological neediness, as full humans worthy of respect or even good manners.
The fact that officials were negotiating up until the day Trump arrived and Trump before left made it a point to keep expectations low, shows that walking away was their most likely course of action.
As Chickenhead said Trump is showing the world he is doing everything he can to denuclearize them peacefully. If the North Koreans restart a provocation strategy like the standard DPRK playbook says to do, I think Kim will get little sympathy if Trump decides to do something tough in response.
North Korea may end up with a slap on the pee pee yet.
There are lots if good reasons to do it… from showing their games won’t be tolerated to taking attention off domestic events to satisfying Democrats and media and public who love a good military strike.
In fact, there are probably more good reasons to give North Korea a light tap on the nuts to show the level of commitment to resolving the overall situation than to engage in business-as-usual business as usual.
China’s “Emperor” Xi is too much of a wuss to try to control Kim Fatty 3…
Or is he? Trump cancelled mettings to discuss reducing tariffs on China right after leaving the summit with Kim Fatty 3…
There may be more than meets the eye here…
The real reason Trump cut the summit short was that his bone spurs were acting up like they did the last time it looked like he might have to go to Vietnam….
