Moon Administration Announces Opening of Three Hiking Trails Along the DMZ

If tensions are so reduced as claimed by the Moon administration, then why the need for security for people hiking these trails?:

Anchor: South Korea will open a series of hiking trails leading to the Demilitarized Zone(DMZ), the heavily-fortified border that separates the two Koreas. The move comes as part of ongoing efforts to reduce inter-Korean tensions, and precedes government plans to establish a peace park in the border region.
Kim Bum-soo has more.

Report: The South Korean government will establish three public hiking trails adjacent to the demilitarized zone(DMZ) beginning this month.

The interior, tourism, unification, environment and defense ministries on Wednesday held a joint news conference to announce the plan.

[Sound bite: Kim Hyun-ki – bureau chief, Ministry of the Interior and Safety (Korean)]
“The opening of the trails demonstrate the reduced military tensions on the Korean Peninsula following the September 19th military accord [of the inter-Korean summit last year].”
“Visitors will be thoroughly protected by our military under tight safety guarantees.”

You can read more at the link, but I think hikers interested in these trails better hurry up and check them out before North Korea decides to start yet another provocation cycle.

Might have to rethink that plan. Big fire burning near Geseong.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/asia_pacific/coastal-forest-fire-kills-2-destroys-120-homes-in-s-korea/2019/04/04/

SEOUL, South Korea — Firefighters by Friday morning had extinguished large parts of a forest fire burning in the mountainous South Korean region that hosted the 2018 Winter Olympics. It has destroyed 120 homes, forced thousands to flee, and killed one person, with another dying because of a falling object in the high winds fanning the flames.

The fire likely started Thursday night from a transformer spark near a resort in the town of Goseong and then spread to the nearby mountains, according to Choi Jin-ho, a fire captain at Gangwon Fire Headquarters. Gangwon province governs the Olympic host city of Pyeongchang and is about 210 kilometers (130 miles) northeast of Seoul.

More at the link of course.

Transformer spark you say? Maybe true, maybe a cover story. Fatty and his cohorts are pretty good at coming up with deniable mischief.

But as always, why didn’t Moon Jae In stop this from happening in the first place? Let’s see the visitor logs and phone records. Maybe we can find an obviously planted tablet showing he knew it was going to happen, but decided to let it happen on the advice of his shaman.

Hiking trails into the DMZ? I took a few hiking trails in the DMZ once or twice, but I think my hiking gear was a bit different than theirs will be: Medevac codes for the radio memorized, M16A2, 196 rounds of 5.56 FMJ (28×7), 2 smoke grenades, 2 flares, LBE with everything taped and tied down, and an M-5 aid bag loaded with medical supplies for traumatic injuries and IV fluids for volume expansion and last but nor least 5 syrettes of morphine hanging around my neck. that is where I got my name.

Moon must be a student of Forrest Gump. “Stupid is as stupid does”…….so it goes.
I have never trusted anything that had to do with North Korea or the little lardass in charge of the despotic regime. Truth be told I think I trust old Moonie Boy even less.

Let those hikers go all the way into North Korea and see how far they get. Fatty will be there with a welcoming squad.

@rocket man
I’ve been fairly deep into the DMZ a few times. Not hiking, but on mountain bikes. I’m not even sure if I should have been allowed on that ride, as it was supposed to be Koreans Only, but maybe I misunderstood. I went with my club, and we joined at least one other MTB club. I was the only Round Eye that day.

Usually folks that get into trouble in North Korea went looking for it. Petty crime, preaching, or trying to do something they were clearly warned not to do.

As long as those hikers don’t try and hop the fence looking for a shortcut back, they’ll probably be fine. Just don’t go when tensions are being pumped up.
