“Hijab-gate” Controversy Continues at Ft. Carson
|A command sergeant major tries to enforce a regulation and now she has to deal with this mess:
A Muslim soldier based in Fort Carson intends to sue the U.S. Army over allegations of discrimination and harassment that began shortly after she started wearing a hijab.
Spc. Cesilia Valdovinos, who has been in the military for seven years and has served in Afghanistan, converted to Islam in 2016. Since she started wearing her hijab, a head cover, at work, she has been subjected to name-calling, increased personal inspections and has been demoted, she and her attorney, Mikey Weinstein of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation said. (……..)
After she returned, a command sergeant major of the 704th Transportation Battalion asked her to take her hijab off in a public place to show that her hair was in a bun underneath the scarf, per Army regulations.
Valdovinos, a culinary specialist, said after she removed the scarf, her hair fell out of the bun, making it appear that it wasn’t following code.
Denver Post
But Valdovinos said she was reprimanded for violating Army regulations for women’s hair even though she was in compliance.
Fort Carson officials declined to discuss whether Valdovinos was punished over her hair, saying it would violate Valdovinos’s right to privacy. But Zinn’s statement said the sergeant major acted appropriately by enforcing regulations for how women should wear the hijab.
You can read more at the link, but is anyone surprised that this hijab-gate controversy is happening after she was facing punishment for an inappropriate relationship which she was eventually found guilty of and demoted?
Put this despicable fool out of the army then send her pathetic A— to Iran.
Islam, like communism and paedophilia, is incompatible with American values.
Nothing anyone says changes this.
Americans are free to believe what they want (communism) and free to do as they wish when it does not overly affect others (paedophilia)…
…but American institutions are under no obligation to accomodate those who oppose traditional American values which have demonstrated their value toward American success.
The American military has no obligation to accommodate Muslims in any way that inhibits the mission… which, let’s be honest, is mostly killing Muslims at the moment.
…and for good reason.
Most of the conflict in the world centers around Muslims pushing Muslim crap on those who don’t want it.
Allowing Muslims in the current military is like letting communists in the 1950s-1980s military… unthinkable.
WTF is wrong with everyone involved?
Again… the First Amendment insures all Americans can think whatever they want… and can publicly express these views. This is an American strength. If their views are correct, they stand on their own and convince new followers. If their views are crazy… neo-Nazi, flat earth, Islam, their views are ignored and are powerless.
But the American military and government have no obligation to support all this.
Isn’t there a catch all part of yhe UCMJ for Conduct Unbecoming? Used to be so easy to issue an admin discharge…
Isn’t there a catch all part of yhe UCMJ for Conduct Unbecoming? Used to be so easy to issue an admin discharge…
Now filing an EO or IG complaint gives them whistleblower protection status.
Why can’t they just be given those DFAC workers hair nets to war.
islam is evil and islamist are not to be trusted. Anything islam touches it ruins.
The so-called “catch all” article of the UCMJ is not what popular myth has it. The Manual for Courts-Martial explicitly lists what offenses can be prosecuted under that article.
Consistently out of uniform, consistent insubordination, behavior unbecoming an NCO…
Yeah, I see now way to punish a cook for that. . But I would avoid wherever she worked as if she was putting poison into the food…
Not for religious reasons; but health and safety. Look up Articles 88, 89, 90, 91, and 92. Any place run so poorly as to allow that type of behavior in the open probably doesn’t enforce the cooks washing their hands after bowel movements
This is just another Muslim Islamaphobe hoax. She probably went to the Jussie Smollet school of hate crime hoaxes.
I dont give a flying F*K what she has on her head, if she deploys and fights. Just look at some of those Kurdish girls.https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1524&bih=766&ei=aE-tXMOeJeKFggft36jQAQ&q=kurdish+female+fighter+beheaded&oq=kurdish+female+fighter+beheaded&gs_l=img.12…3304.14650..16640…0.0..0.54.1356.31……0….1..gws-wiz-img…..0..0j0i5i30j0i8i30j0i30j0i24.joEVU9-XNkE#imgrc=zgymSvL3dsftdM:&spf=1554861947811
At least she still has a head.
“I dont give a flying F*K what she has on her head, if she deploys and fights.”
In WWII, would the American military allowed a member to express their right to wear a Nazi armband while complaining about discrimination over their Nazi beliefs?
In the Cold War, would the American military harbor an open communist, shamelessly promoting the ideology seeking to destroy the country?
In the Global War on Terror, would the American military, primarily fighting Muslins on a number of fronts, allow an open Muslim anywhere near a situation that could affect the safety and well-being of the mission or the personnel?
It is a right for Americans to be Nazis, communists, and Muslims. It is a right for them to openly express their beliefs.
It is not a right for them to join the military when they openly and actively promote ideologies counter to American goals and values.
Muslims can build mosques and hold services in America just like Klansmen can stand in a circle around a burning cross on their private property.
But the military should be under no obligation to accomodate any Islamic demands, from religious services to special clothing.
And it is quite crazy that anyone accepts this as normal.
What you mistake for madness is design flaw. As Ben Franklin is quoted as saying, “A Republic, if you can keep it.”
Softheaded and morally-deficient people gai ed power and were bought off by those who want to enslave us all. Or kill us, if they so choose.
Islam is going through puberty. The Jews after hundreds of years of oppression tried to kill everything that moved in the Middle East, the Christians did kill everything that moved in Europe after 300 odd years of oppression, so finally Islam was lured out of their tents with the promise of gold for their oil and realized there was a whole planet out there that Muhammad told them to convert or kill. They too had to deal with Christian oppression in their early years. Christianity is dealing with middle child syndrome acting out against the other children, and Judaism is ganging up with Christianity to bully Islam. Meanwhile the Eastern religions are standing back wondering when the h*ll those children will quit fighting…if I forgot to offend your religious beliefs, don’t worry I’ll get there.
Islam is not our enemy. Most of the fighting in the Middle East is Muslim vs. Muslim. We ally with Muslims to fight against those who are our enemy. The Kurds, our strongest ally, are an ethnic group but most of them are Muslim. We recruit Muslims into our military and our national security agencies and they are indespensible in the GoT.
Even though I am agnostic, I support the First Amendment which I understand to guarantee freedom of and from religion. I don’t have a problem with anyone’s religious beliefs as long as they don’t try to impose them on me. I don’t think there are that many extremist Muslims in the USA. I’ve personally never met a Muslim in the US that concerned me as much as some Christians I’ve met.
“Islam is not our enemy.”
That may be true… if by “our enemy” you mean that we are not women, gays, artists, writers, atheists, slaves, anti-pedophiles, haters of fascism, babies with a clitoris, or lovers of bacon.
“Most of the fighting in the Middle East is Muslim vs. Muslim”
That is a meaningless point. It isnt Good Muslims fighting Bad Muslims. It is Bad Muslims fighting Worse Muslims to see who controls the loot and who gets to institute their brand of fascism. This is a good thing… as a clear winner would certainly look to other regions to control.
“We recruit Muslims into our military and our national security agencies and they are indespensible in the GoT.”
Until they start hacking congressional computers or shading translations to hide the truth or etc. The extetnal loyalty of Muslims and Chinese is not to be trusted.
” I support the First Amendment which I understand to guarantee freedom of and from religion.”
Excellent. The First Amendment must be protected for American civilians. But military service is a privilage and not a right. The First Amendment does not allow military members to put a Mexican flag on their uniform or a swastika tattoo on their neck… and it should not allow any indicators of religion.
If the military will not allow a vocal Nazi or a vocal communist, it should not allow anything else which stands against the values of America.
Islam, like Nazis and communism, is against the values of America… and, while the First Amendment rightfully protects the rights of civilians to believe and promote these systems, the military has different standards… for good reasons.
You can be an Islam fluffer all you want… but before you do, ask yourself what Islam is contributing to the world right now… especially something that cannot be obtained without the accompanying Islam.
Waiting.
CH is right. Try bringing a Bible to Saudi Arabia. This isn’t about bringing violence to anyone. It’s about having the courage to step out of the pot before you’re dinner. http://tinyurl.com/yxv5jn2y
And all that rot about “Christians are violent, too” neglects the fact that the rise of the Roman Catholic Church and the Crusades were essentially secular efforts to fight off Islamic incursions since the 7th Century. Sure, there was violence (lots of wars) in Europe. There always has been, always will be. Western people hate being serfs/slaves/chattel; but their leaders have no trouble trying to enslave them…
There will always be people, I don’t say Christians, who feel the need to force conformity. That’s not bound by race or self-applied labels.
I invite you to read better history books. September 11 was chosen specifically to “counter” both an Islamic defeat in Malta and another in the Siege of Vienna.
This might be a good place to start: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006N0THLO/
And this is an entertaining Polish film: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Day_of_the_Siege:_September_Eleven_1683
And if you have a Muslim friend, it either means a. you are a Muslim, b. they are practicing “al taqiyyah”, or c. they are not following their Quran.
(Quran 5:51)
But sure, blame the rape on the girl’s skirt being too short…
Since when was religion was a test for Service? Sikhs wear turbans, nutty guys have tattoos all over their bodies.
Ole Tanker, it’s the oath, not the religion.
Some in the Army need teaching on EO and religious beliefs and what the First Amendment is about. To often, if a belief doesn’t line up with a leaders personal views, leaders have been known to get angry and threaten soldiers. The religion is not an issue unless it falls under something non traditional; ie extremists. Their own commanders manual and EO violations lists that so maybe their manual needs to upgrade to include the specifics they don’t allow or consider extreme. Its really more about leaders not being trained well on whats okay and whats not under Religious EO violations. Just because a leaders not of faith, doesn’t mean its his personal way or else. Their own judgement could be far from society norms, beliefs, etc., so it can’t be just their opinion because of rank. Sadly, some leaders can’t handle others having any religion or a different understanding of what that might mean to someone of faith. One example is there are Sniper Sargeant’s who teach stupid ideas based on the 150 year old controversial Darwinism concepts which have absolutely noting to do with Army values. They’ve been known to get upset when lower ranked soldiers say no, I’d prefer to have an opinion more in line with modern scientists who support intelligent design and apologenics which connected to their Christian heritage; as is becoming more common in the USA. I’ve heard stories of stupid leaders thinking they are okay to spew their evolutionary views because they are leaders, yet have no clue that telling a religious person ( ie: Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Baptists) they came from apes is insulting and is in fact an EO violation of their 1st Amendment rights. More law suits have happened on that very subject of where people can actually teach evolution (a theory, not fact) in violation of the 1st Amendment than any other topic. Sure, its allowed in some public schools by board approvals ( with decades in the legal arena), but that doesn’t give Army personnel the option of spewing their non religious theory anymore that a person of faith can attempt to get you baptized into their beliefs. Keep instruction and uniform to the Army standards and those issues will not be a big deal. Here’s a word for thought… Christians are called those of the unveiled face in 2 Cor 3, so does that mean every Christian gets the right to not wear the covid mask? If our leaders had any clue on religious rights… we could even ask the Governor if he’d respect that type of faith based non covering; or if cloth masks were found to be non healthy by the CDC, then would he require all Muslims to not have a face covering based on that. Bottom line…Stick to the Army standards, show respect to ALL ( not just leaders by rank) & keep personal opinions to oneself. We all have different views on some things and no one will ever agree 100%. Leaders need to start by setting a good example themselves, by keeping stupid personal ideas and theories to themselves and most topics never have a problem. As for the scarf issue, the Army has an EO violation manual, if its considered extreme, it should be listed. Or let their lawyers add it if its not in line with the uniform. Duh? Add a leaders common sense class to learn about our 1st Amendment for some folks?! No one ever said you drop your faith when you put on the uniform so best to understand it from both sides of the isle.
I now believe the origin of religion was likely related to the accidental ingestion of hallucinogens.
CH, as an American, you’re entitled to your own religion (even it it’s “none of the above”). However, be careful about expressing ideas like that around certain religious zealots who prefer halal meals.
And then, just for giggles, read this: tinyurl dot com/No-Excuse
How could I not get along with Muslims?
We are fellow Star Wars fans.
They are quite passionate about running around yelling, “Admiral Akbar!”
CH, you might be right. Tell me about the beer they sell in those halal hostess clubs…
