Ref Boeing’s Max 8 problem: ‘bout 15 yrs ago, I took a couple of C++ programming classes from an instructor who also worked as a programmer for Boeing. He said programmers were frequently offered to go up on test flights. And then, half jokingly, talked about how the guys who wrote code for the flight control systems would never go.

Basically, he said, many of them just didn’t trust the work the other guys were doing.

He would relay this story while on the importance of commenting your code, having someone else look at it, following company standards, explain deviations, etc.

Flash forward to today: My gut reaction is to think this was all the work of some snowflake, someone who won’t follow the discipline, doesn’t think they have to, has never suffered real consequences for misbehavior, in short – someone who just doesn’t get it.

Moral of the story: Parents, spank your children.

USB horror stories:

1. A man was arrested and charged with destroying about 50 PCs at an east-coast university. He used a USB device that drew power from the slit and relessed a -200v charge, frying parts of the PC.

2. There are hundreds of “Bad USB” devices out there like Malduino and Rubber Ducky that pretend to be keyboards and in seconds dump various scripts, backdoors, and so on onto PCs–Windows, Macs, and Linux. Some even set up a stealth wifi network.

3. Hardware Keyloggers can be added inside your keyboard or placed inline with any USB device.

4. A small USB device can issue “deauth” packets knocking users off a wifi network and then allow another device to capture the subsequent messages as users try to reestablish contact, allowing for offline password cracking, even with WPA2.

5. Many hackers leave infected USBs around with malware that infects PCs with autorun enabled. Often, a software keylogger and a covert means of transmitting the stolen data are part of the payload. An uncautious user might never know.

USB is the Nigerian Prostitute with No Condom of devices.

One can only speculate that Microsoft’s implementation was intentional…

…as nothing really changed since XP.

People give me data on USB all the time. I keep an Android TV box on the network as my first line of defense.

“Mexican troops disarmed American soldiers on US side of the border”

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/mexican-troops-drew-weapons-on-american-soldiers-on-u-s-side-of-the-border

“Officials confirmed that the Mexican troops were armed with what seemed to be rifles. They raised their weapons when they saw the two U.S. soldiers, and then took a pistol from one and put it in the CBP vehicle. According to officials talking to CNN, the two Americans obliged “in an attempt to de-escalate a potential volatile situation.” ”

“Throughout the incident, the U.S. soldiers followed all established procedures and protocols,”

Wait…

…so the established procedure and protocol for the American military being captured by a foreign military on America soil is…

…a quick surrender?

Bonus thought: Border cartels should take advantage of this fantastic supply of weapons and equipment hand-delivered by uniformed American delivery boys to anyone who will dress like a foreign military and carry what “seems like a rifle”.

Happy Easter, Liz! He is risen.

CH, you know the Gateway Pundit covrred this in some detail. By having troops along the border in civilian clothing and unmarked vehicles, it’s a blessing they were not killed.

Apparently all the “Carls” got promoted and shoved into Planning.

“By having troops along the border in civilian clothing and unmarked vehicles, it’s a blessing they were not killed.”

I kinda feel Americans, civilian or military, should be able to drive and wear anything they want on the American side of the border without the Mexican military needing to hop over and concern themselves with it.

But I realize borders are not a popular concept for successful nations right now.

CH, it takes a long time to clean out the septic tank Bush/Clinton/Bush/Obama filled. Trump has had other priorities. I’m sure they’ll get to it. But who puts two essentially unarmed soldiers between the fence and the river? That officer ought to be guarding a pile of dog poo, with a spoon, in Greenland, for the rest of his “tour” after having lost all “time in grade” (or whatever they call it). And since “officers serve at the pleasure of the President,” it ought to be at least six years.

Hmmm… Makes me glad I have no power over anyone…

CH, that wasn’t nice… and everything costs more these days, even in Haiti…

JoeC, that video’s a solid case for not using the penthouse pool during an earthquake…

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
http://mengnews.joins.com/view.aspx?aid=3062311

The investigation of pollution test results at the Yeosu Industrial Complex has expanded, with officials now looking into the possibility that almost all tenants at the site were involved in the alleged deception.

Sources are claiming that the rigging of environmental reports is practically a tradition for companies in the industrial complex.

Last week, the Ministry of Environment said it found that since 2015 more than 235 companies in the industrial complex colluded with inspectors to fabricate environmental reports. It said 13,096 test results had been either tampered with or completely fabricated.

More at the link, of course.

While China clearly creates the lion’s share of pollution in Asia, the Korean “White Envelope and Salon Room” technique never seems to go out of fashion. Cheaper to pay a bribe than actually reduce pollution to the standards set.

Hmm… This guy is getting out of prison;
http://m.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20190425000654#cb

The face of convicted child rapist Cho Doo-soon, whose brutal rape of an 8-year-old girl in 2008 shocked the South Korean public, was revealed on a TV program Wednesday amid growing concerns over his upcoming release.

Not sure where he’ll be released, and the pic is clearly well out of date.

Normally, I’d add a ChickenHead joke, but not today.

Today’s “Fake Outrage”
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/north-korea-issued-dollar2-million-bill-for-comatose-otto-warmbiers-care/ar-BBWhP5C?OCID=ansmsnnews11
As always, no one wants to read the article as it’s always much easier to leap to whatever conclusions you prefer. Hidden well away from the TDS inducing headline is of course the key line:

The bill went to the Treasury Department, where it remained — unpaid — throughout 2017, the people said. However, it is unclear whether the Trump administration later paid the bill, or whether it came up during preparations for Trump’s two summits with Kim Jong Un.

So, did we pay $2M or not? The evidence in the article makes it seem more likely that Otto Warmbier attempted suicide rather than being beaten by the North Koreans.
The NorKs, for all their faults, know that roughing up a hostage reduces the chances of getting a payment. Especially a Caucasian hostage.
