ROK Supreme Court Confirms 3.5 Year Jail Sentence for Former Governor for Sexual Abuse
|Former Governor and liberal political rival of President Moon Jae-in, An Hee-jung will be going to jail:
South Korea’s top court on Monday confirmed a lower court ruling that sentenced a former provincial governor to 3 1/2 years in prison for sexually abusing his secretary in one of the country’s most high-profile MeToo cases.
The Supreme Court handed down the ruling to former South Chungcheong Province Gov. An Hee-jung, saying that the victim’s testimony was consistent and credible enough to be accepted as evidence.
“The victim’s testimony is deemed credible given that it is consistent and very detailed without parts that are inconsistent,” the top court said in a statement.

To run as a candidate in South Korea means there is good chance you will end up in Jail… right?
Right-and if your trial doesn’t produce the right results the first time, you will be tried until the correct verdict is handed down……
Korea is not a rule of law nation, but a rule by law nation. This allows people to go after their political enemies once they are in power and others to keep getting away with things. It would be interesting to count up how many of President Moon’s political enemies and rivals are either in jail or faced prosecution.
The third-favorite presidential hopeful, Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung, was found guilty too…
He would have only gotten 3 years if he had raped a 10 year-old… assuming she “didn’t resist enough”.
That and stayed out of politics.
Constantly being disappointed by South Korean politics. I am naive enough to think they were different than Uganda or New York.
