|The Bank of Korea is considering issuing Dokdo coins:
The chief of the nation’s central bank has pledged to consider issuing “Dokdo commemorative coins,” amid increasing public demand for the issuance of such coins in a pre-emptive move to increase awareness among the international community that the eastern islets are Korean territory.
Bank of Korea (BOK) Governor Lee Ju-yeol made the promise during a National Assembly audit of the bank, Tuesday, in response to Rep. Park Myung-jae of the main opposition Liberty Korea Party, who asked whether the issuance of Dokdo commemorative coins is still difficult for the central bank.In a report given to Rep. Kim Du-kwan of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) ahead of the audit, the BOK also said: “If the government asks us to issue Dokdo commemorative coins, we will consider the issuance, after taking its appropriateness and ripple effects into account.”

said no one outside of Korea ever.
Can you imagine if the US were to say to every foreigner “Do you know Machias Seal Island?” A bunch of rocks disputed by the US and Canada. 😛
“has pledged to consider”
What an amazing level of commitment!
There’s a thriving market for challenge coins outside every USFK base…

That was meant to be a response to the story on Hankyoreh and Senior Prosecutor Yoon, which seems to have disappeared … though the perspective on the veracity of Korean witness evidence on Dokdo …
Mea culpa. Actually didn’t disappear, it’s a response to a link from J6Junkie in the Open Thread: Denials of report linking prosecutor general to sex scandal, Korea Joongang Daily, Oct 12, 2019
At last, a piece of rock out in the middle of nowhere with no known significance to humanity will get the recognition it deserves.
Seriously, that place might not be worth the thousands metals that its image with engraved on.
“amid increasing public demand for the issuance of such coins in a pre-emptive move to increase awareness among the international community that the eastern islets are Korean territory”
Wow.. just wow. There so much layered ddong in that statement I.. just wow.
An enterprising sort could jump out to a Chinese company and start makingvand selling their own coins, patches, keychains, etc.
I kinda favor having a 16″ Dooly the Dinosaur waving a 4″x5″ Dokdo flag… a real centerpiece for any festive get-together…
