Moon Administration Wants to Reduce ROK Army By 100,000 Troops By 2022

There could be a steep drop in the number of ROK Army soldiers in the coming years:

The Army said Friday it plans to reduce the number of troops by around 100,000 over the next three years in the face of a shrinking population and as part of reform initiatives to create a smaller, smarter military.

By 2022, the number of soldiers will be slashed to about 365,000 from the current level of around 464,000, according to an Army report presented to the National Assembly.

This is in line with defense reforms under which the government seeks to reduce the number of troops to cope with fewer potential draftees and shorter mandatory service terms for conscripts.

Us should reduce trrops in kind…better yet pull out all its troops. Why should the US care more about the defense of a country than its own citizens?

Flyingsword, what do you expect when South Korea’s pool of young men eligible for service has been halved over the last 20 years? There simply aren’t enough men who can serve. They need to adjust to a new demographic reality. That doesn’t mean ROK’s military is being weakening. On the contrary, the military spending where South Korea buys new weapons from the US, has rapidly increased under this administration. It has been a rip-roaring business for the US defense industry and US jobs. What are you complaining about when South Korea’s defense spending spree has been good for the US economy? Doesn’t the national interest of the US come first, over anything else?

Edit: when I wrote “US national interest”, I meant money for the US. You’re getting tons of money from the ROK defense spending spree, isn’t that what the US government cares most about right now? So I don’t understand why’ll be upset when all your financial goals are being reached for this year and more.

What Flyingsword means is that he advocates the US pulling out of ROK, just like they abandoned the Kurds. His President is absolutely right, Koreans weren’t at Normandy fighting for America, why should Americans fight for unprofitable blood suckers. But Koreans still better buy American weapons or else they’ll slap another 50% tariffs on Korean made washing machines.

Kurds were never allies. Most kurds are ardent communists.

2022 must be the target date for the new “walk through the south”. Commie Moon is just trying to make it easy for his comrads.
