It is no longer Skynet, it is Legion…
…if you have the misfortune of watching the latest Terminator abomination.
But to answer your question, probably in the 1970s when emergent properties of the telephone system were noted.
Thinking machines are not coming with a bang… they are creeping up on us like an infant growing toward adulthood…
…or a serial killer creeping in the dark.
Your pick.

“Or Joe Biden creeping up to sniff on an unsuspecting little girl” is how one joker put it… before blurting out that “Epstein never killed himself”…

My campus just switched to facial recognition. It looks cool and, when it works, just adds a few seconds to the annoying mass migration during the morning and afternoon rush through the campus gate. When it rejects your face, though, your stuck and have to to go the side and have the security person check your campus ID against their computer file.
Yeah, I like the idea of facial recognition payment on buses and subways, but testing it out in a major metropolis probably isn’t the best idea.

Even the ACLU recognizes the danger: https://www.aclu.org/issues/privacy-technology/surveillance-technologies/face-recognition-technology
Some people want to be serfs. Why not just get “chipped” like they do with pets?
Johnhenry, you are woefully uniformed of the dangers. But that is one way they get sheeple to give up rights….’look how convenient…..’
