Unification Minister Calls Rumors About Kim Jong-un’s Health an “Infodemic”

Congratulations to the Korean Unification Minister for creating a new word, “infodemic”:

Unification Minister Kim Yeon-chul on Tuesday rejected unconfirmed reports of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s illness as “fake news” and “infodemic,” insisting he can say confidently there have been no unusual signs in the communist state.

Speculation about Kim’s health spiked after he skipped an annual visit to the mausoleum of his grandfather Kim Il-sung on the late national founder’s April 15 birth anniversary, the North’s most important national holiday.

Media reports have since speculated that Kim might be seriously ill, but Seoul officials have disputed the reports, repeatedly saying there are no unusual signs found in North Korea and that Kim is believed to be staying in the country’s eastern coastal town of Wonsan.

“It can be seen as a phenomenon of infodemic,” Minister Kim said during a parliamentary foreign affairs committee meeting, referring to a recent deluge of unfounded rumors about the leader’s heath. “We have intelligence capacity that allows us to say confidently that there are no unusual signs.”

The unification minister did not coin the term “infodemic”. I first heard it back in March from the WHO (https://www.un.org/en/un-coronavirus-communications-team/un-tackling-%E2%80%98infodemic%E2%80%99-misinformation-and-cybercrime-covid-19).

Only if you buy into conspiracy theories.

Setnaffa, are you buying into conspiracy theory again?

Are you pushing the idea that the WHO worked with China to manage the political fallout through deception, omission, and misdirection at the expense of world health?

Just because documented actions and an established timeline clearly demonstrate that, it doesn’t mean you should believe it… unless you are racist, of course.

Johnhenry is a Canadian. Everything he has ever written has been Canadian-style passive-agressive anti-American. He consistantly supports positions against American interests… even in subtle ways on unrelated topics that open a window to his Candian-style liberal value structure.

Despite being in the military, it is clear when discussing military topics that it was not the American military… as his entire mindset fits with the Canadian military far more than most American military members.

Nice try, infiltrator.

CH, I can’t speak for anyone else, but I don’t buy conspiracy theories myself, I always choose the free version (ad supported, of course)…

I’ve been short of cash lately, so I’m not buying anything. I have noticed a lot of hospitals being forced to lire, furlough, or lay off employees.

I’m not saying it’s true; but coming from China, everything tastes like chicken. Except the chicken, which tastes a bit fishy.

*fire*, furlough, or lay off…
