U.S. Soldier Tries to Steal Taxi Cab While Waiting for Plane at Airport
Here is a non-Korea stupid soldier story for everyone:
A 19-year-old American soldier who is accused of trying to steal a taxi at Munich International Airport was thwarted by the car’s transmission, German police said.
The soldier, a member of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment based at Vilseck in Bavaria, was supposed to be flying back to the U.S. from Munich International Airport last week, regiment spokesman Maj. John Ambelang said.
Instead, he is accused of trying to take a Mercedes taxi for a spin after seeing the keys in the ignition and no one in the driver’s seat, said the Munich airport police, who are investigating the incident.
The soldier is also accused of assaulting the 50-year-old cab driver when he tried to stop him from taking the car, the police statement said.

You can read more at the link, but what an idiot. I will never understand what goes through people’s mind to think that while waiting for an airplane it is a good idea to go and steal a taxi cab?
I can only imagine what the call to the commander and first sergeant was like being told about this stupidity.
I confess to having been stupid at 19. Even to being stupid (at times) up to about age 50. After that, I’ll plead insanity…
Stupid is spending too much money on entertainment. Or reacting badly when a girl refuses to date you. Or even agreeing to drink things “your friends” light on fire.
But stealing a car isn’t stupid, it’s malicious. And so is punching the owner. Especially while in the US Military overseas. That’s DD territory.
That soldier is going to find out the hard way that life comes at you fast when you behave like an arse. And at 19, he is old enough to have to pay for that guy’s car repair, at the very least…
I feel sorry for the kid. He obviously didn’t get much instruction on right v. wrong at home growing up; but he made the whole Army and in fact all Americans look bad.
I bet it was a stick shift that thwarted him. This dumbass deserves his Article 15.
J6, he’s going to need roughly a “parting of the Red Sea” level miracle to get off with an Article 15. Relations with Germany are not strong enough to give this guy a pat on the hand…
It’s a shame the German Polizei don’t treat GIs like they did in the 80s. Otherwise everyone would be visiting our idiot de jour in a hospital until he was well enough to be discharged to a prison cell…
IF this Soldier did this in Kalifornia, Portland, or Seatlle, he might have successfully invoked his “rights” under systemic racism and claimed the vehicle as reparations… then sued the cab company for defective product… dude would have been free with bail same day, even if he car-jacked with loaded firearm.
