Government Sponsored Program Helps Adoptee Find Biological Parents in Korea
|DNA technology is continuing to help Korean born adoptees find their biological parents:
A 47-year-old Korean-born woman adopted by an American family 44 years ago has reunited with her biological family after conducting a DNA test through a South Korean mission in the United States, the foreign ministry said Sunday.
On Thursday, Yoon Sang-ae, now an American citizen, had a tearful video call with her 78-year-old biological mother, Lee Eung-soon, her twin sister, Yoon Sang-hee, and brother, Yoon Sang-myung.
Yoon Sang-ae was three years old when she went missing while at a market in Seoul with her grandmother. She was flown to the United States months later.
She registered her DNA information in search of her family when she visited South Korea in 2016. Her biological mother also registered her DNA the next year to find her daughter. (…………)
It was the first case where a Korean-born adoptee found the biological family after the government began providing a DNA test service for overseas adoptees to help them be tested and register their information without having to come to South Korea.

She “went missing” and ended up adopted “months later”? Even in 1976 the US State Department required more than somebody saying “She followed me home, may I keep her?”
Maybe Grandmother could have answered some of those questions. Like how a 3-year-old could go from Namdemun to Suwon (per Korea Times “abandoned at a hospital in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, and that she was sent to the U.S. for adoption through an adoption agency, Holt Children’s Services)”
Not saying the parents are to blame; but some adult had to be involved.
@Set. Easy answer. Holt Children’s Services has a “deal” with a hospital in Suwon, any “abandoned” children come to them for adoption….Goon goes to the market in Namdemun, snatches little kid and “abandons” kid at the hospital. A 3 year old has no idea where she is or how she got there. Call the local cops, “Nope no missing kids in Suwon.” Holt steps in and “saves” the child. Another Korean “orphan” is saved, Holt walks away with profit…yes I have no hope for humanity.
Wwll, Doc, only Christ offers hope for humanity, so that’s okay.
And being ripped from your family at three and adopted by a loving family in another country is better than what happens to unwanted kids at Planned Parenthood. Better for the family too. Although 44 years is a heck of a long time to wait.
It’s still not good. But being alive is pretty much always being dead. Now there needs to be some sort of reckoning. The “goon” has probably already met with his/her maker. Or will soon. The Holt people need to step up and show their character. They need to show they’re not selling children.
