U.S. President Joe Biden’s nominee for secretary of defense, Lloyd Austin, said Wednesday he would bring about an early resolution to stalled military cost-sharing negotiations with South Korea.

In a written statement to the Senate Armed Services Committee, Austin described the U.S. military alliance with Seoul as the “linchpin of peace and security in the region” and “among the most combined, interoperable, capable and dynamic” alliances in the world.

If confirmed, the retired four-star general said he would focus on modernizing the alliance along with others throughout the Indo-Pacific region and “seek the early conclusion of cost-sharing negotiations with South Korea as part of those efforts.”

Waaaait a minute. This guy is “the new U.S. Defense Secretary”?

…and not the nominee?

Will he even be confirmed to act on his dreams?

Last I recall, it’s illegal to have a SoD within 7 years of military retirement without a waiver. They gave one to Lap Dog Mathias hoping a military boy in a roll historically intended for civilians would keep Trump in line.

Perhaps nobody will take a stand against a swampy diversity hire such as this… but a lot of senators on both sides (assuming there are really sides) don’t like the idea of former military running the civilian end of the military.

And as a bonus sweetener…

Lloyd is super buddy-buddy, and financially in bed, with Michele Flournoy. Where have you heard this name? She and Hillary got Obama into the Libya mess. She also co-founded Center for a New American Security… which has a donor list that looks like a collection of every scummy company you would expect to be begging for perpetual war.

However, CNAS is also pretty spot-on with hawkish China policy… so who knows.

So he was.

I’m a little upset with Biden, though.

He could have sent a better message against bigotry if he had nominated a transsexuals to that position.

…or, at least some sort of genderqueer… preferably handicapped.

Nonetheless… will be interesting to see what this military-industrial complex swamp dweller does with the position.

CH I think you answered your own question…he will use every decision to $$$ line his pockets or secure a board position when he gets sacked. Anything relating to global strategy or defense he will be as lost as a lieutenant with a compass…
