For First Time, U.S. Air Force General Officer Faces Court Martial for Sexual Assault

Via a reader tip comes news that an Air Force two-star general is being court martialed for sexual assault:

U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. William T. Cooley USAF

A US Air Force two-star general is facing court-martial in a first for the Air Force, the service said Wednesday.

A sexual assault charge against Air Force Maj. Gen. William Cooley, former commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory, has been referred to court-martial, Air Force Materiel Command said in a statement.

“After a comprehensive review of all of the evidence from the investigation and the Article 32 preliminary hearing, I’ve informed Maj. Gen. Cooley of my decision to move his case to general court-martial,” Gen. Arnold Bunch, the AFMC commander, said.

Again, I’ll just point out that the investigation will prove General Cooley was not wearing his reflective belt at the time the alleged incident was said to occur.

The charge stems from an August 12, 2018 off-duty incident in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Cooley allegedly made unwanted sexual advances by kissing and touching a female victim. The civilian victim is not a military member or DoD employee.

Thus unprotected by his government-issued belt, in the wilds of New Mexico (Yes, I’ve been to Albuquerque / Kirtland AFB, the University there is as “woke” as Duke or Brown), he was lured by his lust, pride, and undoubtedly ethanol into revealing he’s just a gormless jerk. It’s something that happens a lot. But generally-speaking, never while wearing a reflective belt.

Getting fired is the least serious consequence. This guy could end up with a DD, in prison as an E-1, and prohibited from firearms or voting if Joey Leg Hairs wants to make an example of him…

Surprised the article left out the key words.
The charge states the general kissed the accuser without her consent, “with an intent to gratify his sexual desire.”
He should’ve retired a Colonel. Made more working as a contractor and rested easy.

I haven’t seen a general officer finish more than one beer in an evening in about ten years, setnaffa. Of course anything is possible. It’s also possible she is a liar. This happened in four years ago and with the new guilty until proven innocent standard I suspect it will be very difficult. Of course higher ranking officers enabled this standard so there might be a bit of poetic justice there.

Btw, I am constantly forced to kiss against my consent by that damn fomite thing they make me wear over my nose and mouth. I feel violated.

Liz, the rules used to be “A [2LT] may not marry, [CPT]s might marry, [MAJ]s should marry, and [LTC]s must marry.”

Ignoring “morality” at this point, if the General had married successfully and honored that commitment, he’d have avoided his current less-than-optimal situation. And if he can’t plan better than that, we probably don’t want him making decisions about USAF directs.

Not saying he is bigger sinner than anyone else (see Romans 3:23); but Generals, like Church Elders, need to be held to a higher standard than junior enlisted (1 Timothy 3:8–13). Otherwise we end up with what we have now.

[insert sad face emoji here.]

“USAF directs” should have been “USAF directions”

I don’t think he has a wife. Certainly no one was going to issue him one.
And with a PhD in physics he probably wasn’t that smooth.

I have a son majoring in astro-physics and can tell you the average smoothness of a person in that major.

So the general gets in trouble for “kissing and touching a female victim” without consent…

…but there are entire best-of videos of the acting Commander-in-Xhief kissing and touching female victims without consent.

Though, in fairness, they are children so they can’t legally give consent.

Of course the double standard that exists among the corrupt cabal disguised as Democrats means the Biden Defense will be rejected just like the Hillary Defense was rejected from the guy who took some photos in a mildly classified area of a submarine.

There is probably a lesson in here.

If the general had spent more time developing military programs that made black lives matter even more or perhaps new body armor that protects both the balls and breasts of the same user, instead of diddling around trying to work out new physics for exotic weapons systems, this wouldn’t even be an issue.

LOL, LMFAO! I got to comment on this Air Force Officer. If he’s convicted he can ask Big Joe to pardon him, his defacto “General”. He didn’t touch that woman, she’s a liar. All them civilians are. I wonder, did he buy her a pair of shoes to make up?

CH – if you were to hypothetically install political commissars in the DOD, how would you do it over a gradual period?

Biden likely will not even consider such a pardon. Now, Trump on the other hand was willing to and actually did pardon war criminals.

Why would Biden pardon him?

He doesn’t even see touching women inappropriately without their consent as a crime.

…especially if they are “on the younger side”.

johnhenry defending P3do Joe again? Say it ain’t so!

C’mon, johnhenry, show us on the doll where the evil Trump touched you…

I’ve lost track of how many fake sexual assault and/or harassment allegations I’ve seen through the years. Probably over 50. I know of ONE our of all of them that was absolutely true, with evidence. That wasn’t assault but harassment.
Years ago I had seen so many fake allegations I’d some to the conclusion I don’t believe any of them initially. If she has evidence she can provide it.

Johnhenry was molested as a child.

Even though it wasn’t his fault, he has had a lifetime of pain, shame, and guilt.

The way he deals with this is through normalizing the behavior.

This is one reason so many molested children grow up to be molesters themselves.

Many of you probably noticed that once I was keyed into this, my conversation was right out of the tricky psychologist diagnostic handbook and johnhenry’s responses have been case-study accurate.

Johnhenry, let it go. It wasn’t your fault. You cannot change the past. But you can change the future and not inflict the same pain upon innocent children that happened to you when you were an innocent child.

Good luck!

I wonder, did he buy her a pair of shoes to make up?

Well it IS New Mexico.

More seriously,
What is anyone’s motivation?
There are any number of reasons.
The most common in my experience is that (their own) conduct would adversely impact them in some way. For example, an angry sigoth (typically either a spouse or boyfriend). Or to avoid accountability (inappropriate relationship with subordinate, career impacting drunken conduct, and so forth).
Or the charge might benefit them in some way (a charge during the middle of a divorce for example).

Why not ask the more obvious question. Is this man a creepy repeat sexual predatory somehow escaping accountability for decades or did he just take this up at the age of 50 something?
