Mother-in-law of Presidential Hopeful Yoon Seok-youl Receives 3-Year Jail Sentence for Fraud
It is probably good for Yoon that this trial is done and out of the way before the campaign season really heats up. However, I expect the Korean left will try and link him to this case even if it is not true:
The mother-in-law of former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, a leading presidential hopeful, was sentenced to three years in prison Friday, kicking off a political firestorm ahead of the 2022 election.
The local district court in Uijeongbu, 23 kilometers north of Seoul, convicted the 74-year-old, surnamed Choi, of collaborating with three business partners to establish a medical foundation and open a long-term care hospital for senior citizens in February 2013, despite having no medical qualifications.
Choi was also convicted of fraud for accepting 2.29 billion won (US$2.02 million) in state benefits from the National Health Insurance Service until 2015 to run the hospital.

Yoon’s mother-in-law has another trial next month, so it isn’t completely over.
Also, one has to remember that the reason Moon was elected president was that the middle-of-the road voters(voters who aren’t conservative or liberal and who care more about everyday problems, such as child care, wages, price increases, etc.) got disgusted with the corruption of the Park government and decided it was time for change after two consecutive conservative governments.
The reason the conservatives are on a roll lately is because the same voters are sick with the antics of Moon and his supporters who have prolonged the pandemic and made houses a lot less affordable among others.
To keep up the momentum, the conservatives have to keep reminding the middle-of-the road voters that they are different and are willing to work for the people. It doesn’t help if their main candidate’s mother-in-law and wife are involved in criminal activities and that there is suspicion that Yoon may have looked the other way during his tenure as Prosecutor General while at the same time going aggressively after Cho Kuk and his entire family.
All the leftists have to do is successively drive home the point that Yoon isn’t clean as he claims to be and from the latest poll numbers, they seem to be having some affect.
