MBC in Criticized for Olympic Opening Ceremony Coverage
It looks like someone at MBC is going to get in trouble for having a sense of humor:
MBC went too far during its coverage of the Tokyo Olympic opening ceremony on Thursday, so much so that the broadcaster found it extremely challenging to make up for the mistakes.

Its hours-long livestream of the ceremony was filled with factual errors including nonsensical, scathing and discriminatory descriptions of some countries which sparked a furious online backlash.
When Chilean athletes marched during the opening ceremony, MBC used the image of the Routes of Santiago de Composte, a network of four Christian pilgrimage routes in northern Spain. MBC staff seemed to have confused the Chilean capital Santiago with the Spanish pilgrimage routes of the same name. It also used an image of the Atlantic Ocean, instead of the Pacific, for Micronesia, a tiny country consisting of 2,100 islands in the Western Pacific Ocean.
MBC left its viewers speechless with its inappropriate images for several countries. It used salmon for Norway and pizza for Italy. When the athletes of Republic of the Marshall Islands marched, the TV caption told viewers, “It was a nuclear test site for the United States.”
Some of the graphics used were insulting. For instance, the image of Bitcoin was used for El Salvador as if the TV station was trying to remind viewers of the Central American country’s adoption of the virtual currency as its official tender. An image of riots was used to represent Haiti.

Yeah… how would anyone associate pizza with Italy? So insulting.

Heh. What else is there to say about it? A leading supplier of women for adoption baby mills? Whatever the case, they should have saved that one-liner for the Japanese team.

As if? Sounds like that’s exactly what they were doing. If a country is ashamed of its choices in monetary selection, maybe the Official Korean Broadcaster of the 2021 Olympics shouldn’t be the one getting the blame.

That is EXACTLY the image that represents Haiti. Apart from 20 years of American semj-occupattion, the entire history had been one long riot from the time they killed all the white people and dressed up in their clothes to last week… taking them from the richest French territory to the poorest country in the western hemisphere.
Must have been a slow news day for the media companies that didn’t get the Olympics contract.

Korea’s criticism of the games has been childish. My wife constantly shows me newsclips of Korea hating on Japan- from a ‘portrayal’ of the rising sun flag by athletes in the opening ceremony to swimming in filthy waters to typhoons hitting Japan.
I just roll my eyes and tell her that I don’t care as long as the U.S. beats China.
Triathlon athletes swimming in the poo water was so funny. They all threw up all that poo water they drank during the swim after the race was over. This Tokyo Olympics has been a huge amusment at the famous “Japanese high techology” – high technology where they dump raw sewage into the sea.. ha ha ha. Keep it coming Japan, it’s something funny in Japan everyday.
