South Korea Sends Aircraft to Evacuate Afghan Civilians

It looks like Korea is about to have a minority community of Afghans in it:

Korea is working to evacuate Afghans who helped the Korean government’s activities there, rescuing them from the Taliban-controlled country, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, Tuesday.

The ministry said in a text message to reporters that “three military aircraft have been deployed to Afghanistan and neighboring countries on a mission to evacuate those who helped the Korean government’s activities in Afghanistan.”

The ministry added the Afghans to be rescued had worked for years at the Korean embassy as well as Korea-led hospitals and job training centers there, without elaborating further on the details of the mission.

>It looks like Korea is about to have a minority community of Afghans in it:

If you weren’t aware, there was already 12,000 Afghan refugees in South Korea, before this operation began.

Anyway, it’s good to see South Korea being a responsible nation to help those people whose lives are endangered for being employed by South Korean run hospitals in Afghanistan, South Korean NGO’s, construction companies, and other businesses.

This is despite the right wing Trumpean hatred found in this forum.

If Korea was a “responsible nation”, it would be responsible to its citizens above all else.

Part of that responsibility would be keeping out shìthole people from shìthole nations.

The Taliban spokesman is saying something about Afghans can’t leave the country.

The Afghan collaborators may be about to learn of a frequent situation that repeats at every scale…

There are good people who want to help but they can’t.

And there are bad people who can help but they won’t.

“Crime? Crime you say? Whatever do you mean? That woman was dressed so provocatively with tight clothes and hair outside of even a scarf. Why, it’s obvious she wanted to be raped.”

You’ll start reading stories like that more often. Muslims should be repatriated to Muslim countries. Those who want to subsidize their room and board should do so in an area where they won’t get into trouble.

Even the “good” Afghans need an advanced xourse in “Western Culture” or Korean Culture.

And there will be those who demand that the nation recognize their culture and overlook the crimes they commit.

We call those people Dhimmis.

LOL.. you guys…

Don’t worry, SK is not dumb. We’re not talking about 400,000, nor 40,000, or even 4,000 people. We’re talking 400 here. And they are all educated interpreters, doctors, nurses, engineers, IT workers, etc etc and their spouses, plus 100 of them are just children. They should be able to adjust nicely into Korean society in time. And I hear that a fair number of them are Huzara ethnics, or Mongloid Central Asian people who have been badly persecuted by the Talibans. Korea’s case is far far different from landlocked Europe. That’s why Korea can be a lot more picky when it comes to deciding who gets to come.

Now stop with all this nonsense. LOL.

400, eh? And how many did it take for the atta ks on 9/11/2001?

I agree. No need to worry.

However, I saw the changes in Itaewon between 1993 and 2014. It used to be a happy place. Last time I saw it there were all these unsmiling obvious Muslims standing around looking like they wanted to beat up any evil-doers. The mood at both Capital and Crown Hotels changed Dramatically.

And that was before that Halal Street where OB Corral used to be…

They will not assimilate–Koreans often don’t allow such a thing with any waygook–but they will draw more young people into their cult.

Have fun.

Itaewon.

When it was a watering hole for US troops all there was were bars, clubs, and shops selling knockoffs. And Koreans were warned to stay away from the area lest they get into a fight with a US serviceman.

The bars, clubs, and shops are still there, but with the increase of diversity and US troops moving on to Hongdae there has been more variety in terms of restaurants, cafes and shops. Now Itaewon is considered more of an “international” district and a place for Koreans and foreigners alike to hang out and spend some time and money.

Yeah. Especially up near the mosque. A real warm, welcoming place.
