When it comes to pointless island disputes, there is also the Falklands and Cyprus.

In the cases of the two islands, the countries involved got themselves into a shooting war, two of the belligerents shooting at each other being NATO members.

So, I think we can all be grateful that the silly war of words between Japan and Korea, are just that.

However, it will also be great if Korea will simply brush off the Japanese antics and not give them an excuse to blow it into something bigger.

TOK, first of all, it was Japan who pulled out of the meeting using the Dokdo dispute as an excuse in their attempt to torpedo the end of Korean War declaration. Second of all, most Koreans are wondering why the f*ck is the US putting Japan into this position where they have any say in whether the two Koreas sign a peace treaty. After all, it was Korea who got the punishment of being a divided country for being a Japanese colony. And the Japanese right-wing government ministers have more than once have laughed, saying how lucky Japan was, for the Korean War to happen, and that they need another war in Korea for Japan to take off again.

KM I don’t what you are ingesting, your revisionist history isn’t close to reality (Fellow ROKheads I know, don’t feed the trolls but…) Korea was divided by the US & USSR as a temporary measure to toss the Imperial Japanese off the island and help Korea set up a government that was their own. Stalin’s idea was take their useful idiot Kim Il Sung as a puppet in the North before the US could get a government up and running in Seoul. The 38th parallel was never meant to be border but simply a middle point for tossing Japs. Kim turned it into an armed border and about 5 years later the launch pad for armed subjugation of the South, despite attempts to have a fair election (Kim was on the slate as a candidate for leader but refused to acknowledge anything other than he was absolute dictator of Korea) across the peninsula. Yes the fight over Dokdo is pointless as the only use for those rocks are fishing & mineral rights.
