Poll Shows Over 70% of South Koreans Want Country to Develop Nuclear Weapons

It seems inevitable with the constant nuclear threats from North Korea plus the growing militarism of the Chinese that the Korean public would want its own nukes to defend itself with:

There has long been a desire among South Koreans for domestic nuclear weapons capability, but a poll shows that in the face of North Korea’s nuclear ambitions and an assertive China, that view has ballooned to more than 70 percent of the population — most of whom want to go nuclear even when the potential drawbacks are explained.

The poll, released Tuesday by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, found robust support for nuclear weapons in South Korea: South Koreans want nuclear weapons even when they feel confident about the country’s alliance with the United States and about the strength of their own military. And those who support nuclear weapons now see a level of prestige associated with them.

You can read more at the link, but fortunately the poll showed that the Korean public did not view the Japanese as a military threat like they do the North Koreans and Chinese. You wouldn’t know that from past Korean media articles that make it sound like a Japanese invasion of Dokdo is ready to happen at any minute.

Around every site with “special weapons”, there are fences with signs that say “Use of Deadly Force Authorized”…

South Koreans who love to protest will test those boundaries and find the guard at those sites every bit as deadly as the norks.

Most Koreans don’t think Japan is a serious military threat because Japan is ruled by highly incompetent crackpot right-wing fascist-wannabes. Leave them be as they are, and they will do the job of destroying their own country from within, through incompetence and corruption.

And the only reason why South Korea hasn’t gone nuclear to protect itself is because of the United States. The US wants a forever welfare state in South Korea. The US is like the guy who hates his girlfriend but doesn’t want to break up with her because he likes the idea that his hated girlfriend is totally dependent on him. He likes the power trip and control that gives him.

Frankly, it amazes me how one can look at North Korea (with nukes) and South Korea (without) and honestly write that South Korea is a “welfare state”.

And the abused girlfriend fantasy is priceless.

However, meth is bad, Dear Readers. Don’t be like KM. Just say no to drugs.

We have a good example here in the form of Dear Comrade Setnaffova who advocates that Korea buy every weapon it needs from the US instead of developing its own, opposes Korea having its own nuclear deterrent, and hopes to keep the USFK in Korea forever!
