Lee Jae-oh, a standing adviser of Yoon’s People Power Party, said, also on Friday, that the abrupt emergence of Yongsan as the most likely site for the relocation may be based on geomancy, a set of ancient theories guiding the auspicious placement of buildings based on topography, known as “pungsu-jiri” in Korean. ‘Yoon had been pledging to usher in the ‘new Gwanghwamun era,’ but now he is planning to move to Yongsan out of the blue, which is ridiculous,” Lee said in another radio interview. Lee is a close confidant of conservative former President Lee Myung-bak.
“At this critical moment in terms of security, he is seeking to kick out the defense ministry and occupy its site. We cannot figure out the reason for his decision other than his belief in geomancy,” he added.
Kim Chong-in, the former chief of Yoon’s election committee, told Yonhap News that it did not make sense that Yoon was wasting energy on such an insignificant issue.
“Rather than moving his residence, he should prioritize how to help small business owners who were hit hard during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

Considering the more pressing problems that Yoon has to tackle and that he rode into office on voter anger against Moon’s botched real estate policies, I can’t help but wonder why he is rushing to leave the Blue House.
Most voters don’t care about whether he stays in the Blue House or not. He can stay in the Blue House, take steps to have a new Presidential office building be built in Sejong, where buying the land for the new office building isn’t much of an issue and when it is completed, move out and say that he kept his campaign promise.
And having a key ministry responsible for the security of the ROK, invest time and money to move out and squeeze into several existing buildings spread out over the Yongsan are during rising tensions with the North makes one wonder whether Yoon is thinking things through and where his priorities lie.

Is the Dollar in Danger?
I don’t think Russia has anything to lose now that they have been cut out of SWIFT. The real danger is what will the rest of the world will do with the US dollar. Call it the America First effect. If the world can’t sell to the US market, then there’s no reason for the world to keep using the US dollar to do their trades. Reserve currencies like the Japanese Yen, which are undeservedly limitlessly backed by the US government guarantee will be the ones to suffer the brunt of the effects first. You can see how the Yen is now the worst performer in Eas Asia after the war in Ukraine began. It used to be that whenever the world went into shits mode, there was a flight to the Japanese Yen. Now that’s not the case anymore.
